Does anyone use the Vox SIP account package https://www.voxtelecom.co.za/sip-accounts? I get that it's just a SIP account, but they sell it as "mobile SIP" and refer to the "Mobile SIP Client" product which isn't really a thing. After I subscribed, the service was called "VOIP - SIP Voice 1". When I queried something they said they "do not support mobile sip". So it has a bit of an identity crisis.

Anyways I downloaded a SIP softphone client to my iPhone and it registered fine, while on WiFi. But as soon as I switched to 3G, it no longer worked (log shows it repeatedly re-registering, as though it closes the connection immediately). I've tried both Zoiper and SessionChat. Some nice others like Bria, Acrobits but don't want to buy an app before I've proved the concept.

Has anyone else gotten something like this to work? And which SIP provider / cellular provider / iOS app / settings did you use?

Might be the iOS doing that, service provider blocking sip, app settings(zoiper has a setting to only use sip on WiFi). I use Zoiper on 3g fine, on Android.

If you are on Vodacom, then very likely that you have a NAT/Firewall issue. You can apply for the unrestricted APN and give that a go.

I got some help from Vox who said they confirmed it "works fine on their side". They recommended I try CSipSimple, except I have an iPhone so that's not gonna work. I also tried linphone. In the meantime I opened a free MWEB Talk account and tested it out, and it worked fine on 3G. But MWEB anything is just... distasteful. Looking at some other options.

I'm also on Vodacom but apparently our networks don't interfere with any VoIP traffic yet. Funny story, I walked into Vodacom Data store and asked them about their VoIP policy. The response was "what is VoIP?", they even asked around and nobody knew.
