Frogfoot Port Elizabeth

Good day. In order to improve your Fibre experience, we, unfortunately, need to conduct maintenance on our infrastructure from time to time. In some cases, it may affect your connectivity, but we will always do our best to get the Fibre up and running as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience caused during these times.

Luckily I am going into the office for a few hours tomorrow and my wife goes into her work for the day.

That said, I think we have something like 4 days of downtime coming at night so hopefully I get some studies in before the line inevitably dies.

Constant maintenance on a brand new network is a result of shty planning and a rush to deploy from the start

Day 1...done
Day 2...done
Day 3...waiting
Day 4...waiting
I think there may have been some maintenance done last night, as we seem to have been rerouted last night shortly after 23h30. Our usual latency was back by 04h15.

At least they figured out how routes work
I do wonder how they go to task as ideally you would be using BGP or whatever proprietary protocol they are using to ensure that you have redundant routes should one or multiple failures occur.

It's a bit hard to fathom that in the year 2021, an outage spanning multiple hours can still happen, given the emphasis on redundancy and HA the last couple of years.

It's hard to believe that in 2021 Frogfoot are STILL doing almost twice-weekly maintenance for a network that should have been sorted out ages ago.

I imagine they generally run layer 2 networks so no routing
If its auto failover - probably use bonding with active backup or some proprietry system

But there should be proper monitoring down to each node

We often say there is a problem but support is unaware till 30-60 mins later

Damn, good thing I got backup.
With Frogfoot being so unreliable, can't wait to move.
Openserve here I come

Are we scheduled for maintenance tonight? At what time? Can't get the FF site to load to see the planned maintenance for our region due to the MTN towers nearby having FF back haul links, so everything is slow as

Damn, that sucks, I also just noticed that the moment my FF connection went down my MTN speeds dropped to 0.40mbps :(

And yep, scheduled for maintanance:
