I think there's a lot more local bandwidth than international bandwidth. Local sites always load quickly.
Interested to see how a local VPN will perform with all this local bandwidth if we aren't limited by QOS

My fibre line is down...
Fortunately my DSL line is still pending cancellation, so I'm back on 10Mbps.
Edit: Back up. I hope I don't experience downtime every time someone gets a fibre installation in Mill Park.
Did they blame it on another installation?
They didn't know anything. Just said I should try waiting it out.
Fed up with this FTTH now,, my order is so messed up it seems, I can't get a reference number from my ISP and the ISP can't get feedback from Telkom. So I literally can't do anything from my side anymore. I can only sit and wait in hope that something is being done and that the order isn't just picking up dust somewhere.
Sounds like what happened with my order. Can't help but wonder if Telkom isn't half arsed about fibre orders for other ISP's.
The one installation guy doing my order mentioned that soon he will be an OpenServe employee and not a Telkom employee, not due to anything on his part. Maybe the higher ups somewhere realise there's a serious problem with conflict of interest? Or that Telkom's system treats non-Telkom orders as junk?

Good news is that I got a call at 07:30 this morning confirming that the guys are on their way to the house to start the digging up.
Will see what things look like tonight. Then it's back into the queue for the actual installation.
Who is your ISP for interest sake?
ISPAfrika, same as Bryn and Metsu.
I understand your pain, I have the same issues with Web Africa. I have been waiting for almost 5 weeks with no order number and no updates other than "we are at Telkom's mercy and you'll just have to wait".
In my experience, the service provided by Garth from ISPAfrika has been pretty good thus far, so I hope you come right.
Awesome! Let's hope all goes well from here and that your install happens asap!
Just got home from work. Light is fading so I can't post any photos, but it is pretty neat. I'll have to do some neatening myself but all in all, the Fibre has been pulled through the conduit and is waiting in a large spiral shape underneath the roof.
I'll let Garth know the progress and hope to hear next week when they will be able to come install the ONT and cable up.

Nice! Waiting the weekend for them to resume isn't great, but it is great that the installation actually started. Did they dig trenches for you then and not just place conduits?
What internet package did you say you have?
