I got that free Fibre offer from Tellkom. The guy's are apparently coming on Wednesday to install. I'll update later and let you know what happens.

Perfect timing, as my ADSL line is all over the place again. Hopefully the Fibre line is more stable.

If you take that offer aren't you forced to use Telkom Internet as your ISP?

I must be misinformed then. I could swear I remember a user here saying they had to choose between one out of a bunch of TI bundles or reverting to their old line speed (on fibre) at no extra cost.

After the pilot period, yes.

I'm saying that if he is a current TI customer, he can stay on with TI but also use other ISPs' accounts on the fibre.

MickeyD is right. I get bumped up to a 10Mbit Fibre line for free for two months. At the end of the second months, I can either pay more for the 10Mbit line, or go down to my existing 2Mbit, which will still run on the Fibre line.

The next month after that I can also cancel everything, as I'm not on a 24 month contract. I can then go with the ISPAfrika / Afrihost combo. And Afrihost just extended their midnight data times, which are now actually longer than Telkom's.

Winning! :D

I'm really happy - no issues to date. I did aset of downloads the other evening. 10.5GB odd worth of data, and it took a little over 17 minutes to download - 9.9MB/s down. :)

Got my line installed today. They had some complications as the other blokes that had come yesterday did incorrect work at the pole, but once that was fixed everything was good to go.

My TI account is currently running at 2Mbit down, 2Mbit up. I was told that it should start syncing at 10Mbit either tomorrow, or by next week. My spare capped Afrihost account is running at the full 10Mbit already. Holy ****! What a difference! Stable and fast, I'm not used to this. :p

I can only imagine what the guys on 100Mbit lines must feel like. ;) I'm very happy. I got this for no cost, and the techs that came by were very professional. *Thumbs up*

Only three or four months. :p And at least they're coming to you. Most people are going to have to wait years for this. :whistle: Hopefully they're still doing free upgrades when they get to you.

I seriously don't know what I'm going to do about space. I guess it's time to build a NAS. In the 8 hours of midnight surfer I have with Afrihost, I can download about 30GB's. That's ridiculous. That's about a quarter of what I would do a month on my 2Mbit line.

YouTube doesn't buffer at all. 720p 60FPS videos are so damn smooth. 1080p30 would probably also be fine, but I didn't test that. How did I use the internet before this? I can't go back to 360p. Actually tempted to open a Netflix account to see what that's like.

Fibre P.E/Linkside/Mill Park

Anyone waiting for fibre in these areas and would like install done this weekend send your order number/landline number through to me. Only orders that are feasible. Thanks
 
These guys are really taking their time down Mowbray street in Newton Park. Area still isn't on Telkoms coverage as well. Looks like they connecting to mill park though so that's good.
