Good day,

I have a 100Mb/50Mb line with Fibrehoods and selected Vox as my ISP. The latency of the account is great. Downloads are generally great but I am having issues with downloading from international servers. All my downloads max out at 3 - 3.5MB. This include HTTP, torrents and NTTP. This is also the same irregardless of the time of day. Even my speedtest download speed seems to be already limited greatly to Cape Town. Note the upload also does seem to be limited to 50Mbps and not does not seem to have the same issue as my download speeds. Speedtest results:

Any ideas on where to start troubelshooting or what can be causing this?

Start with contacting Vox, something very wrong there.

One would think that is the logical thing to do but Vox support is completely terrible. I logged a call last week for a billing issue and have still to receive any feedback.

I used their online live chat yesterday and the agent just told me to send them my test results to their customer support. No response.

Odd, I've had nothing but great support from them. Once I hung up after one 'ring'(other phone rang) and about 10min later received a call from them asking me if line was okay as they received a missed call.

Woah, was this you calling them from your DECT phone they provide?
Are calls to Vox support free from that phone?

50Mb is your last mile speed, international isn't stated. Seeing that this is a contended consumer product, I am not sure what you should expect - surely not 50Mb international. After all what are you paying per month, and that also includes a SIP phone, minutes, mobile data?

3 seems way too low though.

I have a 100Mbps download link not 50. Its 50Mbps upload which per my testing is definitely not limited to 50Mbps. I do understand that I should not be expecting full speed to international but you can't tell me 5Mbps is what I should be expecting.

Yesterday I got extremely high speeds similar to the test results below but this morning it was back to my speeds per my original post. These are tests that I just performed...

Hi RVDM,

I am in the same situation. 100Mb/s download/50Mb/s upload package from Vox through Fibrehoods. I battled to get over 200Kbs download speeds recently and logged with this Vox. I was told by their support department that as these sites where overseas I should not expect much more than 6Mb/s. For me it pretty much destroys the reason for purchasing FTTH if I can only expect 100Mb/s if downloading from a site in JHB.

I will be trying Vox support again.

Cheers

Latency affects single thread speeds a lot.

What is the general experience with Twitch? I have no issues with High but on Source the stream buffers about every 8 seconds for 5 - 10 seconds. This is on a 100Mb/s line so I would expect it should work on Source. I remember some guys having issues as per the fatpipe thread but cant recall if that was isolated issues or just a general Vox issue.

A bit off the topic but does anyone know what Vox's fibre MTU/MRU settings are? I suspect 1480.

With Fibrehoods and Vox I generally get around 5 or 6 Mbyte/s from some international sites (certain HTTP and NNTP) although at times I get 12Mbyte/s from certain international sites.

Very weird and iffy, but 50Mbit international is still not that bad actually. So yeah. I live with it.

Are you guys experiencing the similarly slow speeds if you plug in directly to the CPE?

I had a similar experience, but managed to solve by getting rid of the crappy Huawei router they provide...

What did you replace the Huawei router with?
