Full Vodacom iPhone 6 contract prices

Comparing the 16GB model contract with the USA.

So that's $60 per month and $199 pay-in. Divide the pay-in into the monthly and you get $68.30 per month. Which is R754 per month.

Vodacom Smart M is R579.

So if you don't need the unlimited voice that the US plans gives, we are in fact quite a bit cheaper.

Doesn't make sense to compare these contracts...

Shouldn't you be comparing something closer to unlimited voice? Like RED VIP...

Desperate people are fooling themselves if they think they can get by on 200MB of data a month. Enjoy your massive data bills.

Any smartphone of this calibre deserves at least 1 GB per month to be even half useful.

I believe most if not all already have or know of a data plan to fit with this phone  , imagine the small outcry they added extra data but the price went up too much. Am sure we would see "should've offered it with a smaller data bundle" lol

Not bad pricing i must say.

Unlimited voice is the main purpose of a phone in the first place so no we are not cheaper......

I get by on 200MB of data per month.
I have WiFi at work that runs on uncapped and my one client also has uncapped WiFi that we are encouraged to use.
And at home I have uncapped internet for my fiancee working from home. So it is easy to get on with 200MB of data.

If you do not have all the WiFi coverage I enjoy, 200MB will be a bitch...

Looking at such prices, I wonder how much I've saved by sticking with my Galaxy S1 for over 4 years now. Probably tens of thousands of rands. I still have to come across something that I might need to do with my phone, but can't.

Maybe that is correct for your usage, but not for everybody.

I don't know anybody that needs unlimited (thousands of minutes) voice. Most people don't use voice as much anymore and 120 minutes is enough. And the trend in most of the world is voice usage going down with data usage going up.

And there is no way in USA to get an iPhone on contract without that unlimited voice. So we are comparing the cheapest way you can get an iPhone in the USA.

It's not a direct comparison, but I think it's an apt comparison for someone like me who hardly use voice (and I'm sure I'm not alone).

You'll also notice they charge $15 (R165) per GB of data, while Vodacom charges R69 per GB on contract.

Yeah but you are still comparing Apples to Oranges and concluding that oranges are better just because its cheaper.....just because you don't need more than 120 minutes doesn't mean the rest of us should be subjected to those limits, many of us especially those who use their phones for business need the minutes.

In absolute terms their contracts are much better especially when you consider they earn in dollars the real world cost to them is far lower than ours!Go have a look at what our unlimited minutes contracts cost, and the fact that they exist is proof that there is a market for them regardless of what you may think people do or don't need.

I totally agree with you. Voice is not an overriding factor anymore. The big advantage is no upfront payment for the phones. South Africa has sweet iPhone deals. To me it is not really worth your while to go the prepaid way because devices are very expensive and you have to load it with airtime and data. The UChoose contracts are really the cherry on the top because you have the added benefits for topups and it is only about R20 more a month.

It is because you don't know better.
