Very interesting thread guys.![]()
I've already got the SO to kill DSTV (Called them today) and I have informed her that we will be setting up XBMC with this whole new setup.
It might take me this whole weekend to get it running how I would like it, however I think it will be worth it in the end.
My idea for XBMC setup:
1. Reads all media off my HTPC (From the three HDDs)
2. Displays them in TV Shows/ Music/ Movies with correct metadata
3. Stream Futubox with the channels I want
4. Setup XBMC PVR so that I can record from live streams
5. Setup the iPhone and iPad as remotes using the official XBMC remote app
6. Try out NetFflix and Hulu - add them into XBMC?
From there at a later stage
1. Get an Apple TV 2 and JB it
2. Load XMBC on there
3. Sync it with main XMBC server
4. Move it into bedroom with new TV
Is all this possible with XBMC and then integrating all the live streams into one area (XBMC )
I have a 4MB uncapped ADSL line at home (Syncs at 8MB) and it's with Afrihost.
How do I see how far I am from the exchange?
Its possible, if you need help with the setup, i can help.
Tandem... I think recording is pushing it.
And look at a Pi for 2nd TV setups... I have 2
Just PM me Tander.
I've decided to leave Netflix out as I just don't see value in their services. They only stream series etc - not channels, right?
Same goes for Hulu.
But the rest of it I want to get working ASAP.
How well do you know XBMC as I would like to add a different skin to it etc?
Appreciate the offer to help setup the system - I will be starting early Saturday morning.![]()
Can I just PM you?
Not really wanting a Pi for a 2nd TV setup.
With the Apple TV I can also stream content from my iDevices to it and yea - I'm going for easy setup here.
PVR I don't think is pushing it - there is a PVR add-on for XBMC. Correct me if I am wrong?
I think I can just PVR straight to HDD, not so?
NTV.MX Another option to futubox, im using both on xbmc currently
Hey guys, check out ntv.mx , 2 week trial available and works great via xbmc as well, no hd option as futubox though
uk premium package is great , 34ukp for plenty channels including all the sky sports channels , some of the bbc channels are not always in 16:9 which is a pain though
and the new BT Sports 1 and 2 coming in august is included as well
been testing for almost 2 weeks now, support seems good as well
With the latest XBMC, they have added Airplay and I can confirm that it works great. Use my iPad / iPhone often when reading the news ect and want to watch the video clips - within seconds the content is playing on my TV. I actually have a separate installation of XBMC running just for Airplay and Futubox (I still prefer Plex for my local media as I can sort better in folders, just personal preference).
Futubox is a great idea but too difficult to get on your TV. I subscribed to the 3 day package but I don't think there is any rugby on there. The easiest way I could find to get it on your TV was by connecting the PC to the TV.
Product doesn't satisfy my needs. If you want an easy way to stream HD content on your PC, go ahead but if you want it on your TV without any effort stay clear. (unless you like having your pc next to your tv)
You need to make sure nothing else is using the net on your network - I find when my ipad or cellphone checks for emails, etc- I get stuttering. 4MB/SD
