True, but if he used those screens exclusively, he would've gotten a desktop, not a laptop.

Disagree, desktop/ laptop has got nothing to do with it. I've got a laptop with 2 external screens at home and the same laptop with 1 external at work
. No, he's using all 3 , and every now and then need "to pick up and go" So if needed he'll use one on the MBP.
