I'm looking for a decent gaming PC.
Preferably AMD Ryzen 5 but for under R10k. Would I better off with a Ryzen 3? I see there are 1 or 2 options, but I'm not sure about the places that are selling them.

PC express - no good reviews on hellopeter
Evetech - some bad reviews on here

Any suggestions? I just need a decent machine that can handle God of War, Skyrim, Atomic Heart (when it's out) etc.

Newegg, Amazon ?
I`m not sure about customs , duties etc as I am currently not in South Africa.
Are you building yourself or looking for a fully pre-assembled system ?

Also do you need a full setup or just case ?

Under R10k is going to be really stretching it hey. Sorry, I don't know if it's even possible to build something for that budget that can play games. You might be better off getting a console.

Agreed , depends on the games you plan on playing as well.
Might be worth to build a Ryzen APU based (3200g or 3400g ) system and at least do some limited gaming and once you can get a dedicated graphics card , add that to the system to play more recent games.
You will more often than not find that the most expensive part in your pc is the graphics card .
The Ryzen 3200g, 3400g CPUs have on chip Vega graphics .
Although not that powerfull , will run Games like World of Warcraft , Dota , Fortnite (At lowish detail levels) and older games .

Okay some clarifying questions.

Do you need just the tower or do you need screen and peripherals?

If you have a screen, I assume it’s 1080P?

Do you have any existing parts like hard drives , PSU or GPU that could be reused?

I have a screen. So I just need the case. My son is an avid gamer (PS3 and Wii U), but rather than go for a PS4, I'd prefer we get a machine I can use for work as well, occasionally. So the dedicated console idea is out.
I definitely would prefer something upgradable. The question is then, would I be better off taking the Ryzen 3 machine that comes in at around R5k and upgrade later, or go for the Ryzen 5 machine that's around R10k?
Would it be much more expensive to upgrade later and will I be cutting myself short if I don't just spend a decent amount on it now?
I can go for R10k at a stretch, I just a reliable supplier.

Thanks for the advice.

Why avoid Evetech?Never had any issues with them, Bought SSD's Graphics Cards through them. Generally better pricing than most.

Prebuilt, definitely.

Get someone like Wootware to prebuilt it for you .
I recently put together a machine for a family member at around the same budget .

I went for something like this as per screenshot.
I had to go for different motherboard as they didnt have stock of that specific one but pretty much what I went for .

I'm sure there are a few other threads, but you get the idea.

Thanks for this. So I think I'd rather opt for something a level higher to be safe.

This looks perfect!! Thanks a mill. It's still within budget if I'm keeping it under R10k.

That is fine if you go higher , just note that the moment you add a graphics card worth buying your budget will have to increase on top of that as a decent mid range graphics card will easily be R5000 +

No PC will play God of War, ever. It's PS4 exclusive.

As for the R10k budget, it will be difficult, but I think it can be done.

Assuming you already have a monitor, mouse and keyboard:

745097
Thats ~R10 300.

Please note, I just threw stuff together. This is not the best you can do, nor do I know if the motherboard is actually any good. It is just to show more or less in which direction I would look.
A decent monitor, mouse and keyboard will be another R2k or so.

As for Ryzen 3, only if you don't have any other choice. It is still based on Ryzen 2000, and has onboard gfx which you don't want to use anyway.

This is a good combination of parts .
That harddrive though will not get you very far . 250Gb (-80 Gb for windows and standard apps etc)
