I was just downloading a few torrents on my 4mb Mweb Premium account and it was coming down at 175KB/s (2pm 11/4/13) and I always use to get during the day 200 - 320Kb/s hence I always praised Mweb. When the Seacom cable went down I looked at a few free accounts to get me by, webAfrica and my 1GB free afrihost account. So I got used to changing the settings in my router. Now, I just been going backwards and forwards between Mweb and my Afrihost account on these torrent downloads and afrihost is kicking mwebs butt. The torrents are coming down on afrihost at 270Kb/s and only 175Kb/s on Mweb. Does Mweb still have problems with the seacom cable or are they over extended now?

Mweb has always said their torrent traffic will be low priority/slow during the day, unless someone bypasses their shaping.

You're surprised that torrents are faster on a capped, unshaped account than on an uncapped, shaped account... during business hours? Regardless all the other issues MWeb may or may not be dealing with, why?

Remember the Afrihost account is a capped account, so no shaping.

OP obviously doesn't know that speed of torrents relies on seeds/peers...

On torrents that have lots seeds, my download speed hardly drops bellow 99KB/s on my 1meg.

you really are missing the point of this thread....

As some people have said - the Afrihost account you are using is a capped account with no shaping applied to p2p ports while the MWEB uncapped account is shaped during business hours for p2p. Most ISPs do this with uncapped vs capped with the exception of webafrica where they shape capped accounts - and thats why I left them - not sure if they have corrected this.
