General Photography

I don't do the boozing, but when I go to family or friend events and pull out the SLR, battery grip, 24-105L and flash... I get strange looks - its also not easy to tuck it away and have some fun.
That's one of the reasons I got my P6000 but the low light is typically P&S'ish so I still end up with a dSRL and the 50mm . . . and the rest of my gear in the boot. :o
 
For how long? there is only so much light that you can capture, or colour that can be "correctly" displayed, or noise that shows up in high ISO?
Then they can get working on dynamic range.
 
Until they both reach the absolute limits of physics? My guess is that when they do, the difference between crop and full frame will be even bigger.

The advantages of so called "full frame" sensors are the bigger pixels and the larger gap between them. This gap minimises the leakage current between the pixels (quantum tunneling) - the leakage current is responsible for the noise. As you crank up the ISO, you're cranking up the voltage across the sensor, giving rise to a higher chance of leakage currents.

The insulating materials used between the pixels may improve, but as the gap between the pixels gets smaller, the chance of quantum tunneling gets higher.

Probably. At the moment, noise reduction is getting better faster than noise is getting higher with higher resolutions. But what NR can do will peak long before we've reach the limit of how many pixels we can squeeze onto a sensor. And I think the pixels will become too small to capture a usable amount of light before we hit those physical limits too.

In the olden days there were no pro video cameras with chips smaller than 2/3", and those were SD. Today there are pro video cameras with 1/3" chips that are 1920x1080. The fact of the matter is its expensive to make chips. The bigger the chip, the more it costs to make. APS-C is a big chip to make, cost wise. Saying that they'll phase out APS-C is a bit premature. I might even go as far as to say they'll be making APS-C, and smaller chips, for a long time to come.

You could debate as much as you want from a technical perspective... reality is that its the market conditions and thus consumers which will ultimately dictate. If a majority of happy snappers pick up SLRs with smaller sensors and bodies it makes economical sense for the manufacturers to continue with the line.

Guys, I need some assistance. I want to remove some colour from an image. Let's say that I want the background to be in black and white but I want the subjects (in this case, people), to be in colour. Is there a way to do that in CS4?
