Maybe for insurance purposes. Had to do it when I bought my 70-200. Remember something similar when I ordered from SACamera.
 
I come asking for tips and advice this morning...

I planned a surprise Hot Air Balloon trip for the wife and I tomorrow morning. (obviously the surprise is for her :D )

Obviously I am tagging the camera along hoping to get some nice images of the launching along with the sunrise and some aerial pics as well.

I will appreciate any tips or advice. (if you've done it before can you please share a pic if possible)

I'm not going to drag along the whole kit. Was thinking of taking only the 35mm F1.8 or the 24-70 F2.8.

Between those 2, I'd go for the 24-70.
 
I'm also thinking about taking that. Nice range for the occasion. But then again I also want to give fixed focal length a try (not sure if this is the time to do so) and the 35mm at around F2.8 is amazingly sharp.

I think I might just sneak the 35mm into the wife's handbag and slip it on if I notice that I'm using the the 24-70 at the same focal length the majority of the time.

Haha... Baby is not going along this time. Oupa en Ouma is visiting for the weekend and will be looking after the rascal while we "jet off".

I'm guessing a slowish shutter speed will be needed for some nice photo of the burners blasting heat into the balloon. Means I should be able to keep my ISO pretty low even in the low light conditions.

Hot air balloons are not the fastest moving things so I will have to to experiment a bit.

We are taking off from Eagle Waters Lodge in Broederstroom (Hartbeespoort). Not sure where we land.

It is about R1500 per person. Includes coffee and snacks on arrival and breakfast and champagne when you land again. Then you are driven back to the launch site.
The trip itself is about an hour in the air and the whole experience between 3 and 4 hours.

Wife has been hinting at the idea for a very long time so I thought I would surprise her.
 
Sounds awesome - don't forget to put the camera down and enjoy the experience with your wife!

Oh for sure... But also can't let the opportunity go past to get a few shots.

I'm not too bothered about aerial shots. More the launching and the setting up of the balloons... Especially want to capture that warm feeling of the burners inflating the balloon.

So we didn't even go. Received this message just after 8PM last night.

Good evening all. I have just spoken to the metoffice, unfortunately they are expecting strong winds and very strong gusts. The upper winds is also above safe operating limits. Unfortunatly tomorrows flight is now cancelled. Please call the office on Monday so we can reschedule your flight.

It was communicated to me from the beginning that all flights are weather dependent.

Apparently anything over 15km/h winds and it is a no go.

I will reschedule for next weekend. Wife still has no clue.
 
A bit of correction makes the world of difference. :)
