New toy just arrived.

Still have to order some a set of cheap transceivers when I venture to off camera stuff.

But for now it will just be a bit of an extra in the kit for those real low light situations like last months kids concert. 70d and el cheapo 270ex really struggled.

EDIT: Forgot the pic

What make is that Canon?

I broke down today and bought a Pixel battery grip for my 7Dmk2. Seems comfortable enough and cost less than R1200.

Nice. Enjoy.

Grip is definitely next on my list. But budget will only allow for that next year.

Personally I'm not all that fond of them but my hand was seriously cramping the other day after only 30 overs or so, even though I was shooting tethered on a tripod.

Oh no. Especially with the kids and individual photos I find myself turning to portrait orientation ever so often. And swinging my elbow up and down the whole time gets tiresome.

Extra battery life is also nice. Even though I really can not complain about battery life. On 70D I almost always got 800+ shots on a charge and I see the 6D rates even higher.

I get over 1800 off a battery for my 7D - at least that's what I got for the last couple of matches.

Sure I will also get many more if I stop fiddling around and reviewing so many shots in detail on the screen.

Chimping kills batteries like nothing else. Check back a few pages to see what I get from a single battery on my old 1Dmk3 when I don't chimp - and the battery I'm using there is as old as the camera.

The build looks really good, which is why I was asking, price and link if possible?

Unboxed it now and seriously impressed with the build quality. I've rented the Canon 580EX two times last year and I must say this is pretty much on par. At a fraction of the cost.

Clear and bright LCD. Good firm buttons and selection dial feels solid. No play at the hinges or when swiveling. It locks really tightly onto the camera hotshoe with no play at all.
Button for unlocking the swivel needs to be pressed in quite deep and hard before unlocking so might be an issue when quickly wanting to change direction. But that is me being pedantic.

Fired off a few test flashes at full power and it is powerful AF compared to my poofter 270EX. Recycle times are good.

Still need to play through all the modes and settings but that will come with time.

Will test it out a bit more in detail tomorrow night. Going to friends for a braai and they also want me to take a photo or two of their 2nd child's gender reveal.

This is the one I settled on: https://www.takealot.com/shanny-60gn-ettl-master-slave-flash-for-canon-dslr/PLID43661069

There is a slightly cheaper one that has no wireless ETTL mode and then there is a slightly more expensive one with built in radio receiver. I just wanted to spend my last bit of Takealot credit so opted for this one that fitted the credit exactly. Might kick myself for not opting for the RT version for only few hundred bucks more. But alas. It's water under the bridge.

It's a weakness I'm working on. ;)

I remember that post yes. Quite incredible.

My camera got knocked out of my hand at the soccer last night - hood for my 24-105 shattered but the Gloxy flash I had on took the brunt of the fall. Had to get an interim replacement for it today and ended up with a Pixel 900C. http://www.pixelhk.com/products/show/226

Seems decently solid but I'll only be putting it through its paces tomorrow night.
Disassembled the Gloxy last night to see if it was repairable - seems like a retaining clip had come loose so I popped it back in place and voila, it lives. I've now got a glut on flashes with the two amazons due to arrive next week.

On the subject of the Amazon flashes - I logged into Amazon to check on their status and was presented with this somewhat devastating news:

However, after reviewing the details it seems perfectly normal to me.

Yeah I also got that first message about customs delay but in reality there was none. Even when the 2nd page showed the parcel was in Durban already, in fact even for half a day after the parcel was in my hand.

Tell me about it...

Yay! I like gadgets and would love to have bought those but I know I don't need them right now. Let us know your thoughts on them when you have a chance. I'm sure next year some time I'll go ahead and buy for myself.
Thing is now I don't really need them - I've got two decently spec'ed working flashes again. :o

Hmm keep as spares? Or sell em. If and when I really need, I'll check if you still have them and I'll buy from you. But I'm sure there'll be plenty of willing buyers before then.

I just received an email from Aramex saying they will only deliver once I've provided information for customs...
