Bummer. I don't take pics at the pro level you do, but I am very happy with the lense on my 6D. If you are used to f2.8, maybe stick to it. This lense is too expensive to make a mistake.

Compared to the new 24-70 the 24-105 is relatively inexpensive. Anyway - just pulled the trigger and ordered one for R11.6k.
 
Picked up the 24-105 just now... time to do some testing.

I meant to reply to you last week but I'm away and interwebz access is a bit spotty for me at the moment. I just attended 2 weddings recently and will be at another one next weekend. I have my 24-105 almost permanently attached to my 5DIII and it works great, even in low light. I have found that an aperture any bigger than f4 on the 5D quite difficult to work with (left eye in focus and right eye out on fairly closeup portraits). In really badly lit venues I've got some pretty good exposures using a on camera flash, just to lift the subject slightly. In my opinion the 5DIII, 600EX flash and the 24-105 are a great combination. I can only imagine that on the 1Dx the 24-105 will be awesome.

Upgraded to a 5D MK III and 1Dx this week and the limited experience I have had so far points to the 5D being very close to the 1Dx. They also work very similarly. In hind sight I might have opted for 2 x 5D but I'm really happy with the 1Dx. Maybe for my next upgrade I might drop the 1D.

If you don't need the high FPS or the dual CF slots then the 5DmkIII is a real bargain compared to the 1Dx.
 
i'm thinking of creating an fb page for sharing my photos. good or bad idea?

also i'm not sure what to call the page if i do create it.

otherwise i could use other sites. maybe 500px?

The only bad part about it is that the latest Facebook T&Cs grant Facebook license to use and sub-license any content you upload to Facebook for commercial (and other) use without any notification nor compensation to you.
You can still get around this by not directly uploading content to the page and instead linking to items off-site, however, such as posting links to items located on 500px or your own domain.

that would be ok if i aint going professional. however it would feel weird if they use your picture for an advert or something similar.
 
Bwana, I guess 500px's terms will have changed since I last reviewed them, then. One key difference is that whenever they do grant sub-license to any third parties, they will only do so on condition that the sub-licensed party fully credits the photographer who owns the photo, whereas Facebook specifically states they're under no obligation to do even that and as such won't.

Ksingh, it's not just about that. If anyone ever contacts you wanting to gain exclusive license to use one of your images and it ends up being that the image has already been used by another party (such as Facebook or someone they license to use one of your images), you may be denied such an opportunity.

Where do you guys suggest I go for printing and mounting/framing photos?

As a Xmas gift, the wife is paying for two or three of my photos to be printed and framed A3/A2 size.

I see ORMS and other places can do it and ship them but I would prefer if I can have it done in Pretoria.

I was thinking canvass with a block mount? Any other advice would be appreciated.

I used Q-photo in Waterkloof Centre - they do have other outlets in Pta, depending on where you live. Otherwise - contact Outdoor Photo and find out where they would suggest.

A friend also pointed out to me that Q Photo has 20% off prints. I actually never thought about Outdoor Photo. And I'm actually a regular there.

I'll pop into the Parkview or Waterkloof Q photo stores over the weekend.
