Golf V GTi drivers

I see more Gtis on the road. No STs. thats enough figures.

All that says is that the GTI is more common.

Think back to the RXi vs. V-tec thing. The RXi was way more common then, but which car is harder to find now?

Do you drive every single road in the country?

The only we can know which ultimately is selling better is by looking at audited sales figures.

A decent Vtec?

Ill get my auditor to get on it asap!

Besides the point.

As much as I'm a VW fan, the GTI is way too common for me to consider. Heck even an FSI with a kit in good taste would draw way more attention than a GTI. And while it won't win many races, I don't care considering that I mostly drive in peak hour traffic.

They like rabbits:p
STs are like? Moles???

Does anyone here have a Revo chip? is it true that you can toggle between stock and performance mode at a flip of a switch? Forgive my ignorance... :)

I have Revo'd my A4TDI -it is not a chip (though I dont know if you get a "chip"). But yeah, it is an optional extra AFAIK. Dont see why you'd want to do that - once you have the extra power, why whould you want to get rid of it again? When they flash your firmware, they make a backup of the old one, so comes service time (and you have a maintenance plan) you can just get them to reload the old firmware(AFAIK , this is free).

I will admit that GTi's are considerably more common up here in jhb... but I remember seeing lots more STs in Durban.

So we may find that national sales figures are relatively even.

thanks for the info, what gains did u get in kw and torque? Just that it wud be nice to toggle it, like the M button feature on the M6..adds 73kw at a push of a button :)

Yup, i saw alot more STI'S in durbs..fewer GTis, not sure abt cape town tho..

Well, never had it Dyno'ed, but, according to their website, it ups the kw from 97kw to 126 and torgue from 285nm to 380nm. All I can say is I am going through tyres like you cant believe. For the 1st week it was crazy. I just kept on spinning. The power delivery was sorta binary . On or off. The onboard comp apprarently adjusts eventually to give you a smoother curve. But -if it means anything, if I buy a new VW/Audi/Seat today with a turbo, I will have it revo'ed tomorrow. Check here for more stats about their product : http://www.revotechnik.com

They are more expensive than the competition. Dunno if it is worth the extra $$$, but, then again, I never had any issues after doing it.

Thanks for the info sleeper, will have a look at their website. Thats some nice gains.. 380nm of torque :) that must feel great..its good to hear you didnt have any issues after chipping..think thats one of my biggest concerns..which Revo dealer did u go to for the installation? And how much did it cost?

Yeah, the torgue is SWEET :) I used "something" motorsport - cant remeber the name now - in Kya sands. They have since closed down (The owner moved to DBN or something) but all clients have been passed on to Performance masters (just check out the "great" site : http://www.performancemasters.co.za/) also in Kya sands. They are the only authorised Revo agents now in Gauteng. I paid R5k if I remeber correctly - was 2 years ago.

Have a chat to the guys - according to the revo site, they can load a trail version, which will un-install itself after 2hrs or something.

Also, have a look here : http://www.audiclubsa.org.za/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl - there are some pretty clued up guys there. I've read that they rate FRC ??? to be very good as well, and I think it is quite a bit cheaper, but I dont think you can switch it off.

I had a look at the websites.. checked around.. Revo Chip will cost about
R5700 now... Heard about the trial version... pretty cool... :)

Extra torque is sweet .... love that pull... think its addictive...

How much would one pay for Golf V GTI, with current interest rates...and how much are u guys paying 4insurance...coz VW are quite pricey when it comes to insurance...ionsurance companies dont even want 2 cover the golfs and polo's these days

Well, with the NCA kicking in last year... you have quite a few options...
You can pay off the car over 72 months if you want to..think they even go up to 80 months... this can lower your monthly repayments... but the downside is that you are in effect paying much more for the car in the long run... Then theres residual.... i'd stay away from this....
Residual can lower your monthly repayments by quite a bit....
but there are risks involved....
Best bet would be to put in a nice deposit and take the car over 54 months or 60 months....

With regard to insurance... shop around... you bound to get a favourable premium... Bear in mind tho... these cars are seen as performance cars...
so you will be very lucky to pay anything less than R1000 ... age dependent of course.. :)

So i just got a quote for R5000 - (Chip upgrade)
From 147KW/280nm to 173kW/328nm
Should i go for it?
