Golf V GTi drivers

What about added strain to engine? and upon something going wrong, the dealer finds out abt the chip and claims that the damage was caused because of the chip, and refuses to fix, heard of some cases as of late :(
these dealers can be really harsh sometimes...

Yip they do know about chips, they also take advantage of it, even if your ECU is shows signs of tampering, they blame the you.

as i said above, reputable software will never harm your engine. Remember, you also not going for 'maximum' output (like FRC and Oettinger custom mappings). if you do the standard mappings, they will never hurt your engine. That is why VW also offers software upgrades. But if you feel you dont want to take the risks, nothing wrong with that.

The VW upgrade through the dealership seems like the way to go hey , think that upgrade is about 10K. If i were to do it now, i'd probably go that route.
If i do it after the warranty period is over, i might look at getting it through the other companies. :)

Hey Viper25 I think that the VW upgrade cost a little more than 10k as I heard they need to ship either the whole car or the ecu down to the VW factory where they send the serial number of the ecu to VW in Germany. They then attach the software against the serial number and send the file back to the VW factory where they upload the software to the ecu, then the VW factory ships the car or ecu back to you.

The other maps also need to map the ecu's serial number this is usually done by reading the car's ecu and serial number info, sending the file to the appropriate remapping company overseas and on the modified file's return, the vehicle's ecu is updated.

My dealer told me 10K when i asked him about it, so not sure about that one, maybe the price has gone up since last year. Thats one long process just to get software upgraded. :)

So what do you guys love about your cars?
I personally love the heated seats and the sound of that turbo :)

You De-catted your GTI? What gains did you get? Heard that it sucks alot more fuel once de-catted? is this true?

The only reason i did this mod was because i had to change my pipes at the back because of my new rear skirt. I know when you do exhaust mods, typical gain is between 15-20kw's.
I dont find any difference with my fuel consumption though.

What you mean how does it sound? you need to hear for yourself if you want to know, i cant explain to you.

No you dont know me, I dont have a gf.

What do you expect to get in KM on a tank avg? I only get around 400km now with the software, but then again it could be because I Playstation alot more now in the car.. hehe. I still make it down to DBN on 1 tank (avg 120)

I get around 600km per tank. I filled up on Monday and i've done around 200km's already im sitting on 3 quarter at the moment. I've managed to do PTA to DBN on a full tank with just a quarter tank left when i got to DBN.

Oh and i'm not chipped...

i get around 550 per tank driving through jhb traffic. Open freeway driving up to 600 - 650 per tank. You have a playstation in your car? very nice. Do you play while driving? :o

LMFAO!! If you make that power with chip alone contact the vw boys as at the last dyno day they really needed it...

Wonder why VW limited their car by a whole 53kW :D

Check out last months CAR magazine. There was a letter/discussion about it.

I think they mentioned maybe a 5kW difference with a drop in reliability and increase in wear and tear.

HEHEHE Ok im not sure if you took me seriously or u taking the p!55.... So to clear it up incase I get reprimanded by every member... When I say " I playstation alot more since my chip" I mean I set the car to DSG and use the Paddles as if it were a PS3 control and have a bit of fun ... :p
On the freeway I get 650 as well and normal Urban 500 - 550.. so its in line...

Anyone have issues with the auto lights during the day?

what issues do you have ?

I start my car in the parking which is underground and dark so the lights come on... when i get onto the road they should turn off - but they dont. Sometimes when driving they come on during the day, its like they can switch on when going into a tunnel but when u come they dont go back off.. I see in the mornings early when the sun is out alot of GTI's have there lights still on... I wonder if its a problem but VW seem to think mine work fine LOL... and the worst part is people flash u continuously . So im back to manual (life is not fair) hehe
