Golf V GTi drivers

I have a question...:

I've been driving my brother's '05 GTI a few times and i've noticed that seems more edgy and racier than mine. The power seems to come even from a slight touch of the accelerator, whereas mine, an '08 GTI seems to be a bit more sluggish.

So anyways, last night I was driving his GTI and a Focus ST pulls up next to me, i drop it in S mode and press....the ST could only manage to stay at my back tyre, after that, the guy had to back off.

Now, in my understanding, the ST should've been able to at least stay in front of me (when comparing it to a stock GTI). I know for sure that my brother's GTI is stock, but he says that he noticed the power difference after he took it in to VW and complained that the car was being a bit sluggish. What could they have possibly done to this car?? or am I just imagining things and its running at the same power as mine??

Oh and by the way, I dyno'd my car a few weeks back and managed to hit 178bhp ATW. Dunno if thats normal or not for a stock GTI

When the car goes to VW, they always make sure the car gets loaded with the new software. Thats probably what happened. As for him kicking ST butt, well, it is a GTi ;)

178/1.35 = 131.85 kw's ATW, which is quite strong. Not sure what that = ATFW though. Is your engine BWA ?

hehe yeah I gave the guy hazards afterwards but the bastard didnt even flash, must've felt really ****.

Ya its a BWA but my bro's one seems more 'open' if u know what i mean. I'm already doing 16000k's so my car is definately supposed to be opened already...doesn't feel like it tho

why not take it to VW and tell them to load the same software like your bro's.

lol @ ST guy, he must be have been burning. 147kw > 166kw :D

lol! Well i've booked my car in but at a different dealership, the one i bought it from. I've told them that the car is sluggish and they need to check everything up. So i'm taking it in on Monday, hopefully they can find somethin wrong with it...oh and thanks for the advice mad :D

Prank I'm sure you just jumped the ST driver or he wasnt a good driver to start off with. I've had a GTI driver jump me and i bogged abit but by third i was next to him and well we all know what the Mazda does in 4th. He was great i wasnt, it happens but atleast i had the kW to get back in it... If we were both driving GTI's he would have left me for dead :(

The St is not all that fast. Met up with a few at the robot. Always pull away from them, by the end of 3rd gear,im about 2 car lengths ahead. The st is overrated. Im stock by the way, bwa spec :)

nooit, it wasnt from robot to robot. I was driving around 120 or so, and he came up behind me, i pulled over to the slow lane, let him come next to me and pressed. He stuck to me for a few seconds and then i edged ahead :D

From 120km/h soe i would think the ST would spank you! 5cylinder 2.5T from 120km/h should eat you. Maybe he wasnt racing :D I donno i'm not gonna cover for the ford boys :o

lol yeah i was shocked myself coz i knew he should've taken me but i just thought i'd give it a try for the fun of it...and he was definately racing otherwise we wouldn't have stuck right on me.... GTI: 1 - ST: 0 :D :D :D

I'm not cover here for my own brand as well... but rather just laugh these comments in this thread.

Here's a quote from Albert Einstein... "Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand."

@ Prankst3r - I felt the same difference between my 07 and 08 GTI. The shift points on my 07 seems to have adapted to my driving style, whereas my 08 shifts like a granny.
The power you making is very low. It should be at least 140+Kw Atw. Maybe your DV is blown. Take it to Hatfield and have Morne look at it.

Oh and I think the ST either tapped off after a while or it was sick.

No one believes me when i tell them my encounter with ST's stories... :(

Who's going for the hot hatch festival? maybe we can meet up there :)
MyBroadBand VW CLUB :p

Hot Hatch Festival

Event: Hot Hatch Festival
What: Festival
Host: VW Club of South Africa
When: Sunday, September 14 at 8:30am
Where: Tarlton International Raceway

What is the HHF?

The Hot Hatch Festival TM is an annual festival aimed at the novice TLGP racer, to put his hatch on the strip and enjoy him/herself. It's aimed at the Top Marquee to see which stable is producing the daddy of Hatches, the likes of VW, Seat, Opel, Ford, Renault, and Honda etc... The racing on the day is based on 'Heads Up' you can take on anyone willing. Classes are formed regarding N/A, forced induction, 2 forms of induction, AWD, RWD etc but being heads up you race who you've lined up with. When you have 200 odd race entries we need to keep the flow of cars moving to allow as many runs for YOU on the day. Race the clock, your mate, a fellow club entry, a rival club entry...hell race the Jet Car if you want but most of all enjoy yourself!

Just a Note: Any tyre can be used, be it a Semi or a Drag Tyre.

Cars that have rollcages and are stripped out will fall under the exhibition Class

Regarding MSA...

Right this is the tricky part... The event is in collaboration with the VW Club of SA and the event is MSA sanctioned. What this means is you need to produce a MSA licence or a Club Membership licence (if your car club is affiliated with MSA).
Now if you do not have either of these do not panic, there will be a MSA stewart at Tarlton on the day whereby you can purchase a MSA licence for R150. Please people, MSA is there as a guide line for our safety...Helmets, long sleeve shirt and closed sneaker/shoe is a MUST!

Entry fee

For spectators it's R50 per person on the day R20 for kids under 12. For race entries it's R200 which includes your race bag containing a HHF t-shirt, lanyard, stickers and promotional goodies.

Exhibitors
We in the process of putting together a few aftermarket Automotive related exhibitors. It's always great to take a stroll and see what the industry has to offer. If you know of anyone keen to display, please send me a PM the rates are really cheap and we provide them with large marques. We would also like to see the respective Car Clubs taking stands to represent!

Entertainment

With the collaboration with Speed and Sound, we'll have some lovely eye candy in the form of some Promo Girls. Up and coming DJ's hitting the decks, the RIOT (tbc) will be performing on the ramp and loads of display cars. There are few other surprises in the pipe line but these need to be confirmed before I post it.

Show n' Shine Display

We have invited a number of Car Care systems to the HHF to display products and trade on the day, and the invitation is open to you too. If racing isn't the name of your game, pull through and come put your ride on display!

Food and Drink

Tarlton has food and drink stalls in place and they now cater for Halaal.

The racing on the day is going to be AWESOME! With the kind of cars on the lists to date, you can not afford to miss this event!
