Good Wireless router/AP for office LAN

Morning all,

We are busy standardising our infrastructure, and need to get a couple of Wireless APs/routers to connect onto the LAN. These routers must be able to be bridged (WDS) to form a bigger cover area utilising a single SSID.

I was thinking 2 D-Link or 2 Linksys jobbies. Any comments/advice on this hardware?

Sounds like you are talking about a mesh network. There is a few howto's on the net using Linksys routers with openWRT or Freifunk firmware. Freifunk was made for mesh networks, so you might want to look into that.
 
Nod, you shouldn't need to use custom firmware for this .. I have set it up using WDS at home with two R400 odd GigaByte units with stock standard config options
 
The new DD-WRT 2.4 Version looks particularly nifty, but Freifunk/OpenWRT/Standard Linksys firmware will be cool too....

I own four of these babies, and still use them for Jawug links!
 
That 54GL is a router ... anyone with advice on the WAP200 or WAG54 APs?

Yes it's a router but with dd-wrt, arguably the easiest, most accessible & best known here of the alternate firmware options, you can make it just an AP but with finer grained control of settings than any factory firmware from any manufacturer will allow you. And it's cheaper than some APs, cheap enough to be used as an AP anyway too.
