Google Calendar SMS - Vodacom issues

Lol - they cut the interconnect costs and a lot of other things as well it seems like! If it is not working on MTN either then VC is under no presure to get it fixed. Its a loosing game.

Still working perfectly on MTN for me - what makes you think it is not

Edit: OK just read the earlier posts from MTN subscribers saying it does not work - I can confirm however that I still get the SMS reminders on my MTN number.

Mine is working now.

For the first time... just tried it again and im getting notifications.

Vodacom - Still not working!!

@MrG, you on MTN?

Yeah. Former Vodacom number (082) ported to MTN.

It hasnt worked for me before.. today was the first time.

This is crazy. How did it work before and now it is impossible to fix. No logic in that.

Technically its impossible to receive a SMS from a shortcode in South Africa.

I still don't understand.

- google reminders did work for vodacom numbers until the end of september
- google reminders are working for mtn numbers at the moment

so how can the above be true?

excuse my ignorance if I'm missing something here

Yeah. Former Vodacom number (082) ported to MTN.

Starting to look like that's the only way to get this working..

MTN probably feels the same way as vodacom about their customers; not interested in anything except for how much money they can make.
But at least it works on the MTN network.

I can do without google reminders, but the fact that vodacom doesn't give a **** is what's upsetting.

... your not alone, its obvious the google tech involved is also clueless. I'm not going to go into details here but this is a common issue I have when international clients try and integrate. It may only be semantics but it causes people to look in the wrong places.

I've been receiving SMS notifications from Google since they started supporting SA networks (couple of years now).

I'm on MTN. Never had a problem with it. I have a number of calendars and use the service extensively.

what is vodacom23 then? a longcode?

Sms received

Good afternoon all
I just received a Google Calendar sms now (delayed from its original 8am scheduled time) from +447624804881 (a UK number).

Kindly monitor as they may have changed the way they send given the inability of the network to handle the messages.

Kind regards
SS

don't want to jinx things.... but looks like reminders are working again for vodacom numbers :)

just received a google reminder from +447624804881

anyone else?

ps. tried to re-verify my number this morning, and received the verification a few hours later.

I can also confirm that it does work now. Hope it stays that way.

To whomever had a hand in fixing it, being Vodacom or Google, thanks.

Thanks to Tim

Thanks to Tim from Google Enterprise Support.

Tim requested a number of test over the past few days. Every time it failed he referred it back to the Google techs.

Will report back to him this evening and judging from the messages here all seems to be back to normal.

Great all working, and from the same no as mybbuser mentioned. Thanks to everyone involved in persevering and getting this sorted out. Long may it last !!

Nope, its an alphanumeric. Its an irony that Vodacom will not allow a South African WASP (or any other in the world) to send using an alphanumeric (this is where the sender from has been manipulated) yet they can do it.

Why VC do it, only they can say.

Thank you to whoever fixed the problem! Text messaging is coming through from Google now.
