Thank you Nuro...will give it a bash. It would work 100% for half a hour or so with the desktop effects running, he the whole screen will just go ka fung faai with the colours and images scrambled all over. I then have press power button and keep it in till it switches off and restart it. Was very anoying. What does powermizer do if I may ask? I am not a power linux user so dont know all the technical stuff :-)

Powermizer is a cross platform feature on Nvidia chipsets. It basically scales the clock frequency for the card, depending on what you are doing. It makes the card run cooler, cutting down on fan noise and power consumption. With desktop effects on both linux and windows, I find that powermizer is too aggressive and it gets really slow. I now have powermizer set to give me max performance on AC, and balanced performance when on battery.

I'm running the latest 190xx beta drivers from Nvidia.

I always have my lappie on AC power....what must I set it to? Is it easy to do? I dont want to break anything?

You can add the following line to /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Go to the part in the file marked 'Section "Device"'
Add this line under the Driver line:
Code:
Option "RegistryDwords" "PowerMizerEnable=0x1; PerfLevelSrc=0x3322; PowerMizerDefaultAC=0x1"

Save the file, and restart your machine (or just X if you want to).
If you find your laptop running a bit hot, or making too much noise, remove the line again.

Hope it helps.

I'm currently using Epiphany as a lightweight browser to bypass the slower Firefox. Anyone who uses both prepared to compare.

I installed chrome and went the through everything to enable flash. It all worked fine, but when i closed the browser to open it again the flash wasn't working. Anyone else have this problem, been trying for a while now to enable it but it still doesn't seem to be helping.

Never mind, it's working again LOL

How would I know if Java and flash was integrated into Chrome or not? Apologies for the noobness of the query...

If you have Firefox installed, it should have prompted you to install Flash before.

And all you need to do to get Flash working, is copy it to Chrome's plugin folder and tell Chrome to look for it. I have posted instructions on how to do it.

Dont know how, but Java just works.

On my mint, I only had to do the --enable-plugins part, and it worked. I did not have to do the copy bit. :D Loving this browser.

So it wasn't such a noob question??!!:D

If Chrome has adblock then I'll use it.

I would also like to try Chrome, but don't think it would be a fair comparison to Firefox with all the add-ons I use. Especially AdBlock, will get mad if I go to a site where the ads were previously blocked, and now I can see them again.

Of course they are always there on MyBB, but only because I want to support this forum. :D

Is anyone else having problems with Flash, everytime I have to go through the whole process of getting it working in chrome again and then when i switch on my pc its gone again.

Anyone have a quick solution?

just add --enable-plugins to the end of whatever you use to run chrome?
