Google Maps Navigation for Android now available in SA

So how do I get this? There is nothing on Android Market. Says it is already installed.

It will say that as maps comes pre-installed on all Android phones...but ours had the navigation function turned off. Just make sure that you are on the latest version. If it does not say "upgrade available" in market for maps...then you are up to date. I will test mine when I get home later today.

Google maps is not Google navigation. Google maps just show top down view of maps, where navigation is turn by turn voice guided navigation that can be viewed from 3rd person as well as top down using either map or satellite photo data, and if you really wanna chew up data, Google Streetview.

I guess Garmin and TomTom just s$#t themselves, esp seeing that Google maps also allow you to cache data before you leave home so you dont need a constant connection.

Sure it was always available for the tech savvy Android users but this move brings it to everyman that dont go around installing software that is not on the Android Market.

Awesome! I was already thinking about buying CoPilot but now that won't be necessary. Thanks Google!

Good luck to Nokia trying to get Ovi Maps on their new Windows Phones.
Without it there remains very little other reason to buy there phones.

OT but reminded me of Worms Reloaded, you should pick Afrikaans when you play that game. Man it is as funny as hell.

I am sure Google Nav in Afrikaans would have the same effect on me, and cause me to crash by laughing to much.

I still am a Nokia fanboi - looking forward to Anna and then Belle upgrades coming to my N8. But when I upgrade in January I am not sure what to take and I have my doubts on how well Nokia will pull off the Windows Phone 7 thing.

Maybe call me a more realistic Nokia [-]fanboi[/-] supporter?

With google rolling out this kind of navigation on Android it is pretty sure Nokia will have to spark with Ovi Maps on WP7

Very nice indeed, upgrading at end of the month & plaaning on getting me hands on one of those androids.
Since i got this N97 i've lost faith in Nokia.
