Google Nexus 4 uncertainty for SA

This is silly. Price aside, they are virtually identical, with the nexus having a slightly better screen. How is the one on par and the other blows it out the water?

Poor decision none the less on Lg's part, we definitely need cheaper better smartphones in za
 
Ok so Cell C this is your chance to win. Bring the nexus 4 16gig in on your own and bundle it with 50 minutes and 1 gig of data at R350 and you have a good few thousand extra contract clients. And possibly the 8 gig variant at R300 on the same package.

Would you guys jump on this? I know I would.

Because being 40% cheaper makes a huge difference as does stock android and getting timely updates!

Agreed. Unless I misunderstand this (I am no Android expert) the Nexus has stock Android and therefore the updates will be more readily available while the LG has its own skin.
If I ever did consider Android regular standard updates via the normal process (no sideloading, rooting etc) would be a not negotiable.
If I buy a premium device I expect that I can get an update within a month or 2 (max 3) of it being released.

Because going on price, the Optimus G's competition is the samsung s3 and the Iphone while the Nexus competition is the optimus black.

remember that pricing positions it in competition with the midrange smart phones and I challenge you to find a single mid range phone that comes close.

NO WAY! I assume you are talking about a 2 year contract? Thats R8400. I find I need less airtime/minutes with the advent of personal and public wifi etc. Would way rather buy the phone for R3000 and use it prepaid. I want that US price here in SA, we need it so badly.

Right, I mean Cell C are charging R329 for the iPhone.
Would way rather buy the phone for R3000 and use it prepaid. I want that US price here in SA, we need it so badly.

That price is fantastic. So are the prices of the Nexus 7 and the new Nexus 10. Need to get!

agree- Cell c could easily bundle the 8gig with R50 airtime for R200 a month. The phone would then work out to 3600, which is more than likely what it will end up costing in SA.
 
I am going to import this thing . . Let a friend buy it in the states, and FedEX it over here, will cost under 4K, for the 16Gb. Just busy enquiring about any possible frequency issues that may arise, ie. that it won't connect to our networks etc.

And the most important issue.
The Nexus 4 is basically owned by Google, not LG.
Google decide launching. When, Where, How etc.
If anyone is complaining Nexus4 is not available in SA.
We have to tell them it is Google decision, not LG.


So, do we take on Google. I reckon it's worth a try!

CALM DOWN! Nobody but a virgin spokesperson said it wasn't coming to SA. Until google releases a schedule or Vodacom MTN or Cell C say anything I'm assuming it's coming to SA. It only launches in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Germany, France, Spain and Australia on the 13th...

So lets wait a bit and before "we take on google"!
 
Update from LG: They've confirmed they won't be bringing it into South Africa.

Interesting and good news actually- If places like Esquire are selling the nexus 7 then perhaps we could convince them to look at importing the nexus 4 as well
 
I'm pretty sure I'll be getting them.. hopefully by last week of November...
Holding thumbs the R/$ doesnt go to hell...

Let us know if you manage. I'm keen at a price below R3700 for the 16Gb. Not sure how realistic that is in terms of import costs and your profit etc.
