Google Nexus 4 uncertainty for SA

So the Optimus G may have almost identical specs, but will it be a $300 phone? And will it get the updates that the Nexus 4 will? Probably not in the same decade...

Looks like there's gonna be lots of importing done here. And lots of people/businesses taking this opportunity to make a fast buck..

What a ****ty decision.

The phone has two big selling points In SA that other phones don't have Eg Google flagship Android 4.2, Affordable for high end phone.

On 2nd thought I think LGs real reason is they have older phones they want to clear in SA.
What a ******* company.

1) I'll import one anyways.
2) I'll boycott LG.

Google decided to not include LTE so the Google phone is not dependant on carriers as it will work on any network in the world ... and in SA the manufacturer decides not to sell it

Just crazy.

What a pity!!!

This is why Sammy is doing great lately. their roll out plan is really getting better and better!
Feb 2013 for the Optimus! WHAT??? by then, Rumours of the E3 2013 will be upon us, not to mention the leaks of the coming SG4! Why anyone in their right mind will even look at this phone that will be old by then is beyond me!

The Nexus 4 is a steal for that price though, so, a European import might just be on the cards this holiday!

Sorry LG, but the Optimus G is a fugly phone, and if the specs are almost identical why on earth should that sell any better than the nexus? Oh because no one knows the google brand right, they would far rather go with the world leaders in cell phones- LG

So the Optimus G may have almost identical specs, but will it be a $300 phone?

This is the million dollar question. Why do I very much doubt it.

Looks like there's gonna be lots of importing done here.

Come on esquire, do what you did for the nexus 7 and bring a couple in at a decent price. I'll be the first on your list.

I think this is the real reason.

What a stupid decision especially at those $ prices.

Yeah!! Exactly my thinking on this decision.

So, SA providers won't be selling it.

I will still get one, even with shipping and such added it will still be considerably cheaper than any equivalent phone in SA.

Epic Fail LG!

don't make deals will Google if you are only interested in pushing for your own devices with your useless overlay! you should be so lucky that for once, users are actually interested in a device with an 'LG' logo on it!

Why you wouldn't jump at the opportunity to push more & more Nexus 4 devices on the market to help your image & boast your Android share in the market other than just worrying about your bottom line is anyone's guess!!!

Nexus 4 has the potential to change some users perception towards LG build quality.... Just saying! your Call, LG!

That's bull:confused::mad::wtf::twisted:!!!!

LG better comment!!

Hopefully Virgin are just trying to seem relevant but making such a statement....

If you (or anyone else) get a total cost, please let me know...I might be interested.

Why does LG not release a statement themselves so we know who the person is who decided that an affordable phone with the latest OS will not sell.

The person who made the decision need to be fired. This was LGs chance to build up their name in phones in SA.

Fail. LG can suck it. Lets hope we at least get the Nexus 10

If GSMarena is anything to go by, then there's almost a 200 Euro difference between the two devices. nexus 4, optimus g

So who's willing to pay an extra R2.5k for a phone that's got features you won't use(13Mega pixel camera, LTE), a micro SD slot, and worse software :P

Honestly, LG needs to show people that it's not just Samsung and Apple that are the nice smartphones. Either way, looks like I'm just gonna import then.

Anyone know a good place to buy this sort of stuff from (I don't fully trust those guys on bidorbuy :p )

I forgot to add that the Optimus G looks worse.

that price is the difference between getting the phone free on an entry level upgrade contract like weekender or having to pay in 2.5k for an upgrade.

well, it's $299, which is 230 Euros, so I made the assumption... :P, either way, it's the best measurement tool we have atm, and it's a 190 euro difference.

Bad move by LG.....
I think it has more to do with the fact that with the Nexus 4 LG cannot fleece the consumer.. since Price is ultimately controlled by Google.
