Anyone else experiencing the Proximity and Light-Sensor Bug since 5.0?

https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=80149

Yes, I have the same bug. The solutions so far is to either downgrade to KitKat or to avoid your phone going into deep sleep by using the app Wakelock https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.wl or have it on charge permanently.

I am using wakelock set to PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK. The battery does drain slightly faster, but I still get through the day on one charge with around 2.5 Screen on hours.

It seems like the proximity and light sensor stops working after the phone went into deep sleep. Here are some other threads on the problem:

I depends on which network has the best coverage in the areas you frequent. I have been with Cell C for more than 10 years now and it's perfect for me. They have the best coverage and are the least congested for me most of the time. The coverage and connectivity is the same, if not better, than it was with my previous phones.

So heres the issue. Cell C coverage is fine at my house. The problem comes in when you out an about. The phone will loose signal and then just never recover without a reboot.

This is not limited to my nexus 5. A colleague of mine from India also has a nexus 5 and the same issue. We both tried just putting the phone into flight mode and take it off flight mode. Even that doesnt get your back on the network.

I'm on CellC and it's OK some days, sucky other days.

Vodacom would probably be OK in most of the areas except at my house. My n5 barely had signal there while I was still on Vodacom.

MTN I find pretty crappy in general.

I've never had the phone drop the signal and not be able to get it back again.

I have never experienced this issue or anything similar with my Nexus 5. For some reason I also don't think the problem would be specific to a single network.

Do you have the D820 or the D821? a few posts earlier mentioned that the D820 won't work on any of the LTE bands used in SA. It could possibly be related to this.

Are you on Cell C?

Its a D821, and so is the guy from India. I bought mine in the UK, he bought his in India.

We have the same issues and the only common factor is Cell C.

By the way, i am using my phone on 3G mode only. I think the problem is worse when on LTE.

Yes I am on Cell C. I also have the D821, ordered from the UK. Mine is set to LTE preferred since I don't see any danger in having super fast internet if Cell C permits, but I don't think they offer LTE yet.

Honestly wouldn't know what is causing your problem, but I personally doubt that it is network related.

I have a MTN 3G wifi modem, and most of the time the congestion on the network is so bad that I have to resort to using my phone as an access point. During the day at home MTN is fine, but after hours and weekends the network is too congested and I then rarely even get 1Mbps. During the day in PTA Central the congestion on the MTN Network is bad, I can get a descent fast connection early in the morning but by 9 o'clock I struggle to get anything. I don't have this issue with Cell C, I almost always get HSPA with speeds greater than 6Mbps both at home and in PTA Central.

This is such BS. Sorry, no offence meant :)

When I was on Cell C, I had variying levels of signal within my place of work and at home. Example, dependant on where I sat in the office, I either had full signal or none at all.

When paying for transactions that required an OTP, I would actually leave my phone on a colleague's desk on the other side of the office, attempt the transaction, run to aforementioned desk, note the OTP, run back to my desk and input the OTP before it expired.

Yes, that is how bad Cell C was. Nevermind at home, where the connection speed would bounce from full 3G to GPRS dependant on the room I was in (and I don't have a very big place, at all).

Suffice to say- Ecco's problems are definitely network related.

You can't call BS just because you had a different experience than I have, that is implying I'm lying about what I am experiencing. Your difference in opinion does not make mine (or yours) BS. Sorry, no offence meant.

I have never had any network specific problems with Cell C on my Nexus 5 or any other device I have owned in the past.

The reason I said that I doubt the problem is network specific (just my opinion) is due to the fact that I have the same variant of the N5 on the same network, but not the same issue. Even when I go out and about and my phone looses signal, as soon I get back to an area with coverage my phone picks up the signal and continues to function as it should without requiring a reboot.

If it is network specific then someone else might experience the exact same problem on a different mobile network depending on the area and that networks coverage or QoS in that specific area.

Yes, the solution for Ecco might be to change to a different network if that network is better where he is. In my experience Cell C is the best where I work and stay. MTN has good coverage when you get to more remote areas, when traveling MTN usually have some coverage where the others have none, but in the City their network is too busy. I find that I'll have full signal, but slow connection speed.
