GPS bug -- iPAD 2 cannot be upgraded

According to note from Apple

Starting just before 12:00 a.m. UTC on November 3, 2019,* some iPhone and iPad models introduced in 2012 and earlier will require an iOS update to maintain accurate GPS location. This is due to the GPS time rollover issue that began affecting GPS-enabled products from other manufacturers on April 6, 2019. Affected Apple devices are not impacted until just before 12:00 a.m. UTC on November 3, 2019.

Update your iPhone or iPad software to avoid issues with location

Unfortunately apparently the iPad 2 with GSM CANNOT be updated past 9.3.5 -- although 9.3.6 is required.

Does anyone know if there is a workaround for this ?
or
Does the iPad 2 now become -- just more eWASTE ?
 
You actually need the GPS in your ipad2 to function?
 
Unfortunately this decision by Apple means that older iPads and iPhones will be unable to run more recent apps

This mainly revolves around the newer apps requiring a 64-bit operating system. The GPS is one such app

Dude, it lasted more than 8 years. I think it has served its purpose.

It is STILL working 100%

What is interesting is that the iPad 2 that uses CDMA -- the AMERICAN cellular technology IS upgradeable !

Is this some kind of -- we are OK screw you -- superior cultural exclusivity ?

APPLE should trade back the old ones and give a discount to upgrade !

IF you had read carefully you would have noticed that the GPS NOT working affects a number of OTHER critical functions ..........
Do you actually need or use the SMS function in your -- "smart-phone" ...????

What critical function of your iPad2 is being impaired? You haven't once said how this actually affects you. How can anyone offer help if all you're gonna do is moan without actually getting down to the details. Maybe someone has a fix for something specific that's affecting you. But if you never use GPS and it's dependencies then what's the actual problem?
 
My iPad 3rd gen is basically a brick these days, cannot use most new apps and the device has become so slow it's a pain to use in the first place.
