Thought it was during the day?
Love how everyone in this thread jumps on the bandwagon of condemning speeding when I am sure every one of us has gone over the speed limit.

Seatbelt not being used, or sensor in seat indicating that seat is empty and then not deploying airbag? My BMW didn't deploy the passenger side due to the seatbelt not being worn (no occupants) but I guess not all cars are the same. In posting that I realised it's probably hard to judge anything with such an impact. If it's suppose to deploy it will with those forces![]()

There was no passenger in the car AFAIK.
And if a car's airbag does not deploy if the seatbelt isn't used, there is something wrong with the car.

The system determines whether the front passenger
seat is occupied by measuring the resistance
of the human body.
The front, knee, and side airbag on the front
passenger side are activated or deactivated
accordingly.
How would advanced driving help you control a car that is moving at 180km/h and you presented with an unexpected event in a few microseconds. Even formula 1 cars have huge run off areas for those eventualities and it still can cause fatalitiesBlowout, swerved to avoid something, hasn't done any advanced driving. Who knows.
I don't drive a golf so I am asking anyone driving one. is it possible for the needle to go in to the red rpm zone? or did the impact move the Needle. My car limits as soon as the needle hits the 8000 rpm red zone
So did some quick look ups on speedos getting stuck.
it seems its a 50/50 chance they accurate after a accident.
one the one side the speedo and ref counter works on stepper motors. they are sensitive and hard impact could "lock them in place". So can a power loss lock them as the needle need a signal to return to zero.
But a hard impact can move them. So if the ref and speedo gauge moved to the right why did the temp and fuel gauge not move?
They can however check the speed, as the airbag modules record certain data on a 'loop' system and things like speed, throttle position, brake effort, g forces inflicted etc etc are 'saved' in the event of a collision hard enough to deploy airbags or seatbelt pre - tensioners.
Does anyone have the gear ratio of the GTI. does the rpm and speed correlate lets say in 4th or 5th gear

I wonder if there's anything to salvage from there?
Maybe a left tail light.

that's closer to the top of 3rd gear, in 4th the revs should be much lower but I may be wrong, driving in the red line in third gear for any period would be weird and if he was accelerating then he would have been changing gears at that point
He ripped the armco right out of the ground. Would have made zero difference
That's part of the discussion. Armco support posts are possibly not to spec wrt quantity/quality and distance they are spaced apart leading to the bridge parapet.
