I have had my modem for over a year now and it decided to stop working over the weekend. I have contacted an Iburst rep (Gcebile is not in, but she reffered me to a colleague) and he says the modem only carries a 1 year warranty.

So now I am stuck in the last few months of my 24 month contract (of which the modem was included) without the use of the service.

That, or I fork out another R2699 for a new modem to use in the remaining months of my contract :erm:

There are plenty of people that has left iburst. PS before you pay someone for the modem. Dail iburst, hand phone to the seller & get them to give accounts permission to discuss if the unit it paid up.

yep - get a used modem, or find out if u can cancel the contract at this stage / what it costs to cancel

Why not send it in to iburst to see if they can fix it

As far as I know it is illegal to sell something on a 2 year contract but only offer a one year contract. That is why all cellphones have a 2 year warranty. Find out what the law says, maybe they have to offer you a new once, since you are on contract.

I live in Bloemfontein.

Strange thing just happened.....took a chance and called the local Iburst Re-seller, and they said they can send it JHB for me and they say Iburst will replace it because I am on contract. Now I am confused. If the local guys are right, then the agent that told me there is only 1 year warranty doesnt know his @ss from his elbow. ???

Our company is relocating to a new premises in a few months and I will most likely drop our iBurst account for wired broadband. We have both a desktop and PCMCIA modem currently in use. PM me at the end of April, if you’re not sorted and I’ll inquire with the directors to maybe sponsor you the device (we won't be using it), or sell it to you.

Good luck in the mean time.

Yeah, I'd go with that idea. As someone else here said, highly dodgy if a company sold a 24 month contract but their equipment (which you'd be paying off over this period) that came with the contract was only guaranteed for a year. Good to hear it seems to have been sorted out, though.

I've got an MTN 24 months contract but the warranty on the phone is only 12 months as far as I know. Am I missing something?

Oh? I was under the impression that the cellphone was covered throughout the 24 month contract?

When my phone died on the 23rd month of my contract they fixed it (Vodacom) they said it was standard to have a 24 month coverage because of the lenght of the contract... might be different now.

On a cellphone the first year warranty is covered by the manufacturer and the second year is covered by the network.

As far as I know Vodacom is the only cellphone provider with 24 months warranty. The other providers only offer 12 months.

Cell C have offered it for a while too, it was just in a different form at first (24months free insurance) so if the phone was beyond economical repair then they replaced it.
