I got a question.

A friend of mine is applying for a gun license and in the application form it asks for the details of your neighbor ( i can only assume for reference purposes ).

Now he doesn't interact with his neighbor at all and wanted me to stand as the reference which I refused to do as I am not purgering myself ( just now the cops wanted to come visit me to confirm ), especially when firearms are concerned. Obviously he did not take it well.

Am I just being a paranoid a**hole?

If it's a friend then I won't have a problem with it... i'll check with him on that because all he told me is he needs to give in his neighbours details for reference or something and I'm not one for lying to the police, especially in a matter as serious as firearm registration.

I bet if I was your neighbour I would guess whats in your safe. In fact if I was your neighbour's gardener I would guess fairly correctly about the contents of your safe :D

Stay away from guns if it gives you a hard-on

To handle a weapon safely in stressful pressured situations, a well trained handler is needed.
Even under calm circumstances accidents happen without warning. All you need is a drop in concentration

Every bullet was manufactured for the sole purpose of ending a life.

He's got like 5 guns, so it must be a big safe.

I'd say some bullets were manufactured for the sole purpose of target shooting

All cars are manufactured to have accidents ... Look at all the crumple zones, airbags, abs, etc. :erm:

a Tool is a tool. It's the person using it which makes the difference.

Which is why experienced gun owners recommend that you undertake some additional training after you get rubber-stamped by the SAPS as "competent". Just like passing your driver's license teaches you nothing about vehicle control in emergency situations.

And the same is true for driving cars, riding bicycles, skiing, scuba diving or walking in the mall and ignoring that "wet floor" sign, but we try our hardest to make things safe to use while they still fulfil their primary purpose. We can't really do that with guns since their primary purpose is to be dangerous, so the fundamental problem there is that some people have common sense when it comes to their personal safety, others need warning labels on their cup of coffee.

Like Americans, but wait, they've got the most guns and often NO LICENCES!

Guess figuring out how not to shoot yourself is easier than learning not to spill your coffee :)
Well Oscar was taught, but never applied the lessons. It comes down to individuals and their attitude.
