Gutsy Gibbon installation problems

I am trying to install Gutsy Gibbon on my old Acer TravelMate 8000 but each time the installation stalls at some point, well I actually never got to the installation stage. Sometimes it gets stuck when I have to chose a language or when I have to chose my time zone and the furthest I got was to chose my keyboard "type" and then it just got stuck.
Any ideas what can be wrong?

Are you installing using the disk? Try the following:

Press F6 or whatever to add extra parameters to the boot process. Add the following to the (already long) line:

acpi=off noacpi nolapic all_generic_ide

I think it's hardy heron you're trying to install.
is there any scratches on the CD? are you using Live CD to install it or are you installing it from the boot screen?

There might be a problem with your CD rom, or with the disk. I had that happening with my a few times trying to run the live dvd.

Try an external USB CDRom if the laptop can boot from it.

I think it was a read-error. Because it works fine on desktop CD-ROMs.
....and other live dvds work fine.
