Easy way to fix this?

Cannot provide details, as I have not seen the PC yet.

Want to get a heads up before I go take a look.

Thanks!

Few years ago I had a Missing/corrupt .Dll file on xp pc. It would not boot windows but strangely enough I could see the pc on my network with my other pc. just replaced the .dll file from my pc over the network to into the system32 folder and worked.... So I guess if u took out the hard drive and do the same it will be fine

Boot to the setup DVD and run the 'repair my computer' option. The Command Prompt will let you run the commands:

bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
c:
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd
should work

Or boot from Linux and paste the file in there. Easier than removing hardware.

DON'T INSTALL HAL. IT WILL LOCK YOU OUT OF YOUR HOUSE.

Wait, is this a version earlier than 9000? If so you don't need to worry.

What the heck are you actually talking about?

Turns out the drive was as dead as a doornail. Was trying to boot off of a secondary drive that had at some point had XP installed on it.
