EDIT: This internet is grating me tonight, can't upload the other pages in decent resolution. I just phoned them. They advise that all of their food is definitely halaal, but they do not have a certificate due to having a bar on premises.
They can't be getting jobs to cook normal food, right?
I'm sure (or hope) they'd be getting hired to specifically cook Halaal (or use Halaal ingredients).
Out of curiosity (again), how many of you (from JHB/PTA, DBN, CPT) would be willing to pay around the same price you'd pay at Jimmys Killer Prawns or Spur for gourmet food?
Guys. What's your opinions on halaal "friendly" non-Muslim owned places that may or may not have a certificate versus strictly halaal.
I travel a lot and most non-South African Muslims in the world follow the concept that food from the yahood and nasara are permissible.
Maybe @wayfarer can reply and I'll link this post to his thread.
Turning people into Muslims via burgers?
??wtf
Nah hes bored and too much time on his hands. He's obviously trolling.
Well I know that Kosher is well "kosher" and basically halaal.
Halaal and Kosher
1. Kosher meat cannot be regarded Halaal, since the present day Jewish method of slaughter in an abattoir environment does not include the recitation of the name of the Almighty upon each animal which is a requirement for Halaal slaughter.
2. Islam prohibits all intoxicating alcohol whilst wines manufactured under rabbinic supervision and other intoxicating beverages such as beers and rum etc. are regarded as kosher. The kosher mark cannot make it Halaal.
3. Islam considers the entire cattle as Halaal if it is slaughtered in accordance to the Shari'ah whilst according to Jews the hind quarter is forbidden.
4. Enzymes irrespective of their source are acceptable in cheese making and carry the kosher symbol whilst enzymes of pork origin are Haraam to Muslims.
5. Jewish law permits use of pork bristle brush in food preparation whilst it is Haraam for Muslims.

If its "halaal" and they sell alcohol. Rather stay away.

But having seafood where alcohol is sold is ok??
i want to jump in quickly.
surely a halaal restaurant cannot not stock alcohol.
it (to my mind) would be the entire restaurant that is considered a halaal environment, not just the food served within the restaurant.
a restaurant may serve halaal meals from certified products, but if non halaal items like alcohol for example, are on the premises, there is the risk of cross contamination.
I was being sarcastic here.
I see many Muslims frequent places like ocean basket where there is no meat but alcohol served and they think it's acceptable.
I don't mind this so much. I see halaal as one of the first food hygiene standards of its time....and I think the lesson must be learnt from that.I was being sarcastic here.
