I have basic blue one and it supports tap and go, paid r99 last year for it on special from yoco
Well good to know, had a look at their facebook page to see the difference between the 'lite' and 'pro' and they said only the pro support tap and go. I assume there is a difference between the 'lite' and 'go'

Lite doesn't support card skimming. :p

Yeah and with the pro they can steal your money like a 'pro' :cautious:

I'm guessing most people don't have much more than a brass bean in their current accounts by the 2nd of of the month these days.. living the high life on credit cards so no big loss.

Yeah what I actually advise people and do myself is to get a cheap debit card and use it for purchases on the net. With all the hacking and leaks going on these days you never know when they get hold of your CC details. So just put enough money for a transaction in the debit card and problem solved.

Other way is to use a virtual credit card like getbarter which also allows for international transactions.

Recently got a tymebank card for this very purpose as it does not even have any monthly cost if you do no transactions.

But a debit card has no protection. At least with a cc its the banks money and they will do a reversal much easier than a debit card.

Well actually if the bank investigates and you leaked your details via email phishing for instance, they will hold you liable for the loss.
The point with the debit card is you transfer just enough funds for the purchase and leave nothing laying in the card account.

Debit cards have virtually the same protection as Cc when it comes to fraud and reversals. I've had a R5k fraudulent payment reversed on a debit card, it was probably as a result of card skimming and was reversed no questions asked.

I believe that it's only the embossed/raised debit cards.
Subject to correction.

I thought I’d post here since I have some friends looking to upgrade an old PC

Require:
Socket 1151 main board
Celeron 3.2Ghz CPU
8Gb DDR-4
350 watt PSU

Anywhere I can get these for R2600 or less? Cape Town preferred
Tks

From takealot:

Socket 1151 main board
Celeron 3.2Ghz CPU
8Gb DDR-4
350 watt PSU

Total for above is R2768.
If you split the order in 2 (say mb / cpu) and (ram / psu) and register as 2 new customers (you and a friend), you can use tryme28 twice for a R300 discount in total, so total would be R2468

It's the bank's money so who cares?

Dude I work in the security industry. If it was your fault e.g. you were email phished for instance, you will be held liable and the bank wont reimburse you. Even people that had sim swaps done (those still using OTPs and not the banking apps) have a hard time getting their money back and lawyers needs to be involved.

which bank have you worked for lmao? CREDIT card transactions have amazing fraud protection

DEBIT cards and EFT transactions don't
I have consulted as a pentester for a few banks. I know how they handle claims. I was part of a team that did fonsensic analysis on a customer's pc that claimed money lost from a cc from a bank and it was proved that he clicked on a phishing email link and therefore was not reimbursed by the bank. I can tell you a lot of stories actually but why when you can just use a debit card like I mentioned above to avoid the issue?

Lol changing the subject from online payments to PEBKAC errors.

forensics run by the bank on a client PC? what type of client or amount warrants that?
Clients with BIG claims, actually.

with FNB, I once had an amount (few grand) taken off my CC, didn't know how/where, told my banker and the amount was reversed in 3 days

I'm not talking about FRAUD that can be proved it was not your fault, I'm talking about scenarios like email phishing for instance.

So if you can use a debit card that cost R0 p/m and just put enough funds in there to avoid ANY losses, why not do it. Pretty much a no brainer to me, especially for older people above 60 that is not used to technology and that can be easily social engineered by fraudsters.
