Should not be a stretch if you go by this and this post in the steam community

edit: lol check this although this setup is Celeron 847 with Intel HD Graphics (Sandy Bridge) 32mb VRam 4GB of RAM, Graphics low Resolution (1280x600) and gets 16-20 FPS

Compared to above examples the Proline Nuc on sale only has 2GB RAM though

I guess that makes sense, since it is Sandy Bridge era, so the integrated graphics would be significantly better than what you'd have gotten on the board of the average E4xxx Core2Duo. That said, a mainstream CPU from early 2008 still has significantly more processing power in general.

At any rate, seems like it's more capable than I thought.

Ah yes, all these people chiming in about Celerons being cr@ptastic. Bet they haven't used a 33xx series or higher. Or they compare it to their i5/i7 systems and expect it to be the same.

Any of the naysayers need more info than that, just further proves they haven't used a newer model yet.

That NUC's celeron is horribly slow though.
Nor would we want to. i5/i7 in a laptop already struggles with most applications unless you go high end. All the people comparing it based on video encoding forget that that's mostly done on gpu these days. Cpu intensive tasks will hand a Celeron its arse.

InfinityFX Google Certified Android 8.0 Media Player with DSTV Now and i8 Keyboard Remote for R1299

This is from hyperli (used to be called groupon). Similar specs to Mi Box but has 16GB instead of only 8GB
Also comes with i8 Keyboard Remote

Why do these cheaper TV boxes all seen to contain Amlogic chipsets? Is there something about them that makes them more suitable, or are they just generally cheaper than their Mediatek counterparts?

In general, the 3D performance seems crappy, in the same league as Spreadtrum for example.

Is Netflix able to achieve 1080p when it's sideloaded?
I think people with the LIT box had a modified version that did 1080P before the firmware update that officially brought Netflix support.

I definitely wouldn't recommend to get this InfinityFX, it looks like it's exactly the original LIT A06, no 5GHz which means no wireless ac and no Netflix support, plus it costs more than the Mi Box etc.

The Mediatek chips can only do x265 4K60FPS up to 35Mbps and it can't do x264 1080P60 at all only 1080P30 and only up to 20Mbps. The Amazon Fire TV sticks use Mediatek.

Not sure if it has Google Widevine L1. Have to use an app like this to check. If it has (like the skyworth box that cost only R799 at the moment on takealot) you can sideload this apk for 1080p netflix. I sideloaded it on a skyworth so can confirm it works.

It not, it should have Widevine L3 at least (like most chinese boxes) which will only allow upto 576p (SD) streaming on netflix

Most chinese boxes are either Rockchip or Amlogic based.
Most of the cheap amlogic ones is widewine L3 only because the license to enable L1 is very expensive and is required when e.g. streaming 1080p on netflix.

I prefer amlogic chipsets as there are more mods available for them. As you probably know the mi box and skyworth box which are dstv certified both use the amlogic S905x chipset which I think is decent.

In actual fact I did some research and can modify any cheap chinese box with amlogic chipset and make it dstv cetrified via firmware / software mods. Have done a few boxes for friends of mine which wanted to dump them in the trash.
