Would seriously wait till Amazon and Black Friday deals come. The 10TB shuckable drives go for really excellent value and would be worth your while to hold out. Nothing comes close to the price of those drives even when adding import duties onto it.

You get different thicknesses. I don't know about Mac Minis though.

True. The Crucial MX500 is generally the one Apple folks use to upgrade due to this. Thanks for the correction, I actually did now this but had forgotten about it.

All the Sata SSD's I've bought have been the thinner 7mm, probably the one the Mini uses.

If you google the specs of the MX500 it is stated as being 7mm. So when buying a 'bargain' just make sure its 7mm

The BX500 is also 7mm. Like @airborne said typical SATA SSD's is 7mm
There are also other non-typical sizes though

If its an entry level laptop that comes with a standard 2.5" HDD, the HDD is 0.37 inch tall which is 9mm, which means a SSD will be fine as a replacement.

Seems this model was released around Feb this year, nothing negative I could really see about it online. Sells for over R4k on takealot and other sites.

While that's the case you have to look at retention brackets which are typically one or the other. I had to replace mine when I replaced the HDD.

The one or two laptops I upgraded had the hdd screwed into some kind of bracket, so I just replaced it with the ssd.
