You still have to own and replace an existing version of Windows to use it. It's not legal to install it on a new computer if your version of XP is an OEM version tied to your old computer.

No. It's the full retail standalone version. There's 32 and 64bit versions (2 DVD's) in the box and can be installed on new PC's.

Have you done this? The incredible employee said this but other than the fact that he did not know that an upgrade version existed, I don't find them reliable in general.

Okay excellent. Microsoft seems to have really dropped the ball on identification of full and upgrade only versions.

I suspect that IC went out and scooped as much full version's as possible and left the rest with Upgrade only versions. Also, MyBB incorrectly stated that IC will be selling upgrade versions only.

Well, MS did have a demo display outside the store and were punting them as a place to buy, do perhaps they made an arrangement of sorts.
