A warm hello and welcome to this thread first of all, and I really hope you would leave here entertained, and leave me bruised and wiser. :)

I just found out my company would be retrenching in November, and that sucks, but, as my daddy always said, knowledge is power. So here I am, taking every piece of advantage of technology to promote myself, and my dream job.

Obviously, becoming a car journalist is next to impossible, but it does not hurt trying, and maybe, one of you can point me in a direction, or even give me an opportunity to get where I need to be.

Enough about me now. I started a blog a couple of months ago after being pushed by some good friends, and it is unbelievable on how much I enjoy it, the ideas also started to come for some projects in the motoring industry.

The Blog is called Jonnie On Cars, and I talk about live of every day motoring, review cars, new and old under 150k, and talk about the future and what we can expect. It takes time though, and I would love to start doing reviews, but all things at its own time.

I aim to get a YouTube channel showing a full restoration, step by step, a heap of DIY videos from a-z, and, insane and impossible as it may seem, develop and build a car, from scratch, for the local market. I would also like to use this platform to make wishes come true for kids.

On a serious note, I need all the help I can get, whether it is constructive criticism, funding for the projects, a job, anything, and with your help, and a ton of faith, I should be able to achieve this. You only live once, and you have to make the best of it. This is my measly attempt in doing so.

You can follow the blog at http://jonnieoncars.blogspot.com or twitter @JonnieOnCars.

I was thinking of doing the same. I had a plan of action as well. Start a blog. Do a few free articles for your local news paper. There are so many around these days. Build a portfolio and approach a car magazine so you could also review cars for them.

Maybe you could start creating video reviews if possible and post them on youtube for monetary rewards.

Nice, would be cool if we got 2nd hand car reviews or recommendations for SA, for those of that cant afford a new one

Thanks you all for the tips. @nether, I should have the first videos up by the end of next month, I just need to reach 1000 subscribers to start earning.
@Brakpanpolisie, I am glad I have your support, there are several good, forgotten gems out there, and all it takes is finding the right one. I will let you know once The reviews start :)
@Toxic T, thanks for the advise, I hope you had a some degree of success

Welcome.

What is your background in motoring. Do you work for one of the motor manufacturers?

@mak2000, thanks for the reply. I do not work for any motor manufacturer, the closets I ever got was moving cars at motorvia.
My background in motoring is also mainly self-taught. I am not a mechanic, but can do most of the stuff myself, including to some degree panel beating, respraying, head replacements etc. I suck at auto electrical work.

I had an original 1982 VW Golf mk1 in mint condition, had to replace the fuel pump to a newer electric one (anyone can do it thought). My dad Built a mini panel van when I was a kid, and also owned a very rare El Camino (1972 4.0, the one with the Monaro dash)

I had a stint in doing a 1980 Mazda 323 sedan which came out horribly, but still was as good as the day it came off the floor. Driving was done by going into an open field and teaching myself. Fun times.

I've always had my passion for cars, since I can remember, and I can honestly say it has never been a phase.
