Thoughts on a Chevy Cruze? I think some forumites on here had one. @Lupus was it you or am I mistaken?

Very likely you'll find something on Gumtree though as Autotrader seems to be more for pricier cars overall.

I would stay away from Chevy, parts availability if you need to order something from the agents is not great, often takes months for them to materialise.

I remember you got too angsty and bought in haste, gotta wait for the good deals, months if required.

Plenty dodgy deals on all platforms but FB is where most private sellers list their cars these days, Gumtree is pretty dead in comparison.

Yeah I just wish that Facebook’s search functionality was better, but I think it uses AI to detect car makes and models instead of searching by topic or keyword.

I was low-key searching for two or so years but not in a hurried pace. And I think about three months of serious searching. But yeah, it was a relatively obscure model, so the good deals were few and far between

FB shows you what it thinks you should see and not the other way round, I remember when I was looking 2yrs ago some days randomly it wouldn’t show me any vehicles for the model I was looking for when there were dozens available. It’s a shtshow on fb but unfortunately that’s where everyone lists stuff these days.

Also FB won’t let you search countrywide, that drove me nuts, idiots.

It’s quite annoying that it does that. Yeah, I found that selecting Bloemfontein with the largest radius (500km IIRC) gave a good spread of results. Or selecting George, which would then include CPT as well as PE. But the search function isn’t great at all

Sorry, I somehow missed your post. That was my thoughts too - our local Gumtree seems full of GM parts though, all from one account with a Stellantis logo. Not sure what that’s all about, but they claim 3-5 working days and that parts can be delivered straight to your nearest Opel/Isuzu dealership for collection.

@FiestaST what is you opinion on a 2013-2017 Fiesta 1.4? I know you have mentioned the ecoboosts are a no no.

Looking for a replacement to my wifes I10 she wrote off in August, she doesnt want another i10, she would look at a grand i10, she likes the i20 however i know the timing chain can be problematic and is an expensive item to get replaced so not sure on that one.

Mazda 2 are few and far between. Maybe a Suzuki swift. Not sure about the Renault Clio's, ive heard turbo replacement costs the same as a small cheap car.

Car will be financed, budget is R110-R120k max. We do have a deposit and we will be trading my Chev aveo in but i owe the bank pretty much the same as they will offer on trade (I have taken it for valuation at a few dealers and all offer around what i owe the bank), im happy with that, just want to get rid of the chev, was a bad buy.

From experience, Renault is a headache. Parts are expensive and very few people know how to fix it (I doubt the French know). Not sure about the others.

I like ’em, that gen/shape. A vote for that 1.4 for peace of mind. There would be no issue wrt parts, insurance should be keen, lastly hijack risk should be “minimal”. Defo gets my vote for your budget. Just try and avoid povo spec Ambiente spec. It is properly base, go one level higher. The colour coding & rims of the above povo spec makes a big difference visually.

Other options I would consider for your budget in the (hopefully) no hassle class:

- Jazz gen 2 (space utilization is still excellent even in ‘22, just note parts are on the higher side).
- Yaris (around 2012 side, solid engineering)
- Swift, there would be options for your price range, very hard to go wrong with a stuff. Even the way the plastics are done in the interior are right ie. hardwearing less cheap feeling.
- Clio (the non-900c T option, so the base engine). Would skip the Sandero.

And then prob the Rio, for 120k you should be able to squeeze into the last gen early model Rio’s, the base engine. Solid car. Keep an eye out for those.

Thanks so much, i appreciate your opinion. It comes down to what she wants in the end. Was thinking Fiesta, Swift or a Yaris if we can find one, havent seen many for sale.

Jazz is a no, she doesnt like them, i want one, im a huge Honda fan. Cant go wrong with Jap. I ride a Honda CBR (the baby one, 125cc) i work from home so no need for big and fancy, just went and filled up, got 43km/l on the last tank.
 
Op if you see a Jazz Gen 2 1.5 auto in your price bracket in good nick snap it up, awesome vehicles, great fun to drive and pretty light on fuel.

But then again you are in Cape Town and they attract a solid premium down here, in Gauteng it’s much easier to find a nice one for a decent price but you never know.
