Help - Alarm battery replacement

Alarm battery pretty much in its chops. Hardly lasts much more than an hour during loadshedding.
Interested in doing a straight swop - but rather using newer gen LiFePO4 battery instead of the crappy gel/lead acid type. Something like this perhaps: https://www.takealot.com/lithium-ion-phosphate-battery-12v-7ah-lifepo4-90wh/PLID92100522

However on the Takealot reviews I see lots of mixed reviews - some say it works, but most saying it's not as easy and does not work. Apparently needs to charge first? Not sure.

Advise please? And no using the security company is not an option - they want to charge a fortune for something that's most likely quite cheapish to replace.
 
For My IDS alarm which cannot take the drop in lithium, i just put in a 18AH a few months back and lasts through stage 6 so far.

Go for it. There's a Securi Prod one if you want a better known brand. If it doesn't work at all in your device, just return it.

The problem can be the charger in the alarm or gate is not fast enough to recover the capacity lost during heavy loadshedding.

This is what destroys lead acid so fast. They don't like not being kept topped up.

LiFePO4 will also eventually be empty in this scenario. It may take months. But it won't be damaged, and you can just hook it to a car charger and get it full again.

Yea i think many order this type of battery to use in a ups
And the small bms won't play nice ie shutsdown if exceeds the amps of bms

And naturally some heave gate motors can pull higher amps i have heard so if your gates requires 10a then yes i can only imagine negative reviews

But for alarm it should be fine can't imagine it will exveed the bms

And naturally alarms charge super slow now imagine double the capacity

Yea first charge use a car battery charger jist to get it full

Lihiums tend to be shipped with 50% soc for safety reasons

When in doubt, have your local security company take a look. Ours used a standard drop-in 12v lithium ion battery from Blue Nova, but some of my neighbours haven't been so lucky.

YEP mine is the older IDS :X3:.
Strangely enough our electricity did not return at 20:30 last night and the alarm was still on this morning, since load shedding started at 4pm yesterday. Since it was night, had to keep the alarm activated and kill the battery.
Same with the Electric fence with an 18AH LA battery.
I know i shouldn't run them over 50% but at night, not taking any chances to switch them off.

YEP mine is the older IDS :X3:.

I'm curious what "don't work well" means. Does a lithium drop-in not power it at all? Does it run flat? Does it cut out after fully charging?

Besides too-slow charging, only things I can think of would be a high voltage charge programme that trips the BMS, or the controller does some too-clever battery type detection. Both of which would be odd.
 
My understanding its too slow charging for a lithium battery.
 
Good morning, just hopping on this thread for help. I have a Paradox SP6000 16 zone with an 8 zone expander. It is powered by a 7ah gel battery (6 month old). This battery powers magnetic sensors on all doors and windows, 4 PIRS, 1 dual side beam, 2 x 8 line barrier beams, 2 x 4 line barrier beams and Olarm.

If the battery gets a 6 hour charge between LS then it lasts around 3.5 hours during the 4 hour load shedding schedule but if it gets a 4 hour charge then it only lasts 2 hours during a 4 hour load shedding schedules.

I have requested a quote from my alarm company which just quoted 1 x lithium battery.

My questions are:
1. Can I change my charge rate to 700mah (alarm company technician says the this blow up the alarm panel)?
2. Can I replace the gel battery with a lithium battery without having to change the charger/transformer?

Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated.

I think the answer is a provisional "no" unless you have at least a 50VA transformer.

The other advice in that thread is to attach an external charger. Something like this could do the trick.

I do have a 50va transformer, can I replace my battery with a lithium battery?
 
Either sound is not good. Check the terminals of your battery and that the connectors are on tight and not arcing. If the noise is coming from the battery itself, then you could possibly have a chemistry issue, in that case I'd disconnect and immediately do a RMA as its dangerous.
 
If it's very faint like you need to put your ear to it to hear it soft then it's probably just the sound of an inductor being switched at high frequency on the BMS board - and nothing to worry about.
