Help! Audi S3 or VW Golf R?

Don't hold your breath. With people like him it's all about the dyno and robot to robot. These same people consider themselves knowledgeable and expert drivers...

Yes, and the majority of us "car guys" do these things...

Yip smaller engine.
On all the tests even track tests the Golf R out performs the BMW. Theres a car shoot out for January, all the hot hatches including the BM will be there and the Type R, guess who wins?
DSG beats the BM box.
VW wasnt cheating on fuel consumption, thats real, the emissions is the issue. Its far more fuel economical, dont waste time arguing about that.
4wd over RWD, all wheel drive is the future... for the purist yes maybe RWD is good but in the current market, AWD is the way to go.

DOnt be sad, the BM is still an awesome car, I wouldnt mind one, its really an awesome option, but the golf has its merits.

What a surprise you responded suddenly. A little bit of psychology work wonders on you ;)

Links to these tests please?

VW did cheat on fuel consumption in some cars.

Funny how most motoring journalists prefer rear wheel drive...

I am not sad - I test drove the R and chose the BMW. You don't be sad that you haven't driven either..

Circle jerk comments in this thread as well as the "86" threat....what's going on...

Rusty? I do await his links to, "On all the tests even track tests the Golf R out performs the BMW".

Come on Rusty, I is waiting....

Lets clear something up. A golf R (and S3) will out launch a Bmw m135 and m235i. The system on these cars is amazing... But

This will be short lived as the Bmw will start closing that gap and pulling you in. The party trick of the s3 and golf is its launch control

Edit: take that drag race to a 1km run and the Bmw I think will be in front. Quarter mile will see the golf and audi always in front

In terms of fun factor. Yes the M235i is more fun no doubt. But from a functional point of view the golf ticks all the boxes and is a perfect everyday car that has performance to boot. Hence why I chose the golf as my everyday car. And its the car I'd recommend

And this from me being historically a Bmw whore :)... Having owned a good few M cars.

Where do you get that the quarter mile will be the R? Locally, with the detuned engine, the R is tested at about 5.2s 0-100, with the auto beemer launch control being quicker than that?

From real world results and not a 0-100kph time you saw from some magazine.... Its not about 0-100kph.its about traction off the line. There have been plenty real world legal drag races where it's clear the the launch control system on the golf is better.

Look I've had a 2012 1M which is superior to your car... And the golf will out launch it. And the 1M is a proper M car. Which yours is not (waiting for you to tell me it is :))

Don't take my word for it next time you next to one test your theory

Not at all - I know what I got and I'm quite happy with it as a daily driver as opposed to the over-hyped 1M. ;)

I would love to test it against a golf R quite frankly. never had a chance. Of course, with you VW chaps you are always modding the things, so unlikely to find a stock one. Still, will be fun.

Dude, adamr is not a "VW guy". Research his car history a bit. He's a bit of a performance car whore and if anything, a Porsche fanboy.

Overhyped 1M? Clearly you know little about cars (and I mean that in the sincerest way) ... Its one of the greatest cars Bmw ever made. Your posts are just highlighting your ignorance about cars and the brand you drive. Your m235i is not a real m car. No m suspension. No m gearbox, no m differential... Should I go on? So to think it's superior to the 1M is laughable

Haha, I love these kinds of threads. That's why I occasionally poke my nose in to see people bashing each other over their cars. Guys, they're just damn cars, relax.

But personally, I prefer the m235i, I think it looks better, and to me, that's one of the most important factors. Only time you're really going to test 0-100 is on a racetrack, or on the highway.

Come to Cape Town, and we can test it :P

Look I have had so many cars that honestly my thrill for them has died. I could be driving a smart car and really don't care what people say.

But what I do hate is misinformation and people going on hunches and assumptions and then because they own a nice car, people should just believe what they say is true. ... Sometimes people don't own anything that is being discussed and they are pros on the subject. Which many on this forum tend to do very well. The OP wanted advice on R versus audi and I gave him what I think is good advice

There are forums dedicated specifically to cars with local folks who have boatloads of knowledge and people I learn from as well. I am by no means an expert but I do have a fair bit of experience and knowledge having owned a good few performance cars

For Bmw: Bmwfanatics locally is a good site and peeps are good

bimmerpost. Com internationally is good site dedicated to the Bmw brand

You wont win lol, the Golf R with software does 0-100 in 3,7s everytime and it doesnt run out of steam.
Even if you JB4 your BM the Golf will take you...
