Semantics (basically the same exactly the same) . They the same cars. Same mechanicals. That small kw difference doesn't make it different. One is a hatch other has a boot.

I don't keep cars long. And generally change after a year or so. So had the merc for a few months. Will change for a cayman soon hopefully. And have a Bmw as an everyday

The S3 and Golf R are based off the same car, but I wasn't/am not a fan of the Golf R, hence I prefer the S3, but more in terms of aesthetics. It's all just much of a muchness. I don't plan on changing cars anytime soon, not while I'm a student, and quite frankly I don't see much point. But yes, yes, I know, I'm not an enthusiast, so I'll be farting against thunder on that one.

Whilst I do understand people have opinions on pretty much every topic, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this (informed or not … freedom of speech and all that). I do however find it slightly unnerving that when a member asks for advice that will result in a big financial commitment from his end, you then have established member’s that will advise and comment on his proposed purchase with a clear lack of knowledge on the matter
Please don’t … you might not have a conscience regarding the results of his decision based on your advise, but I do. Especially if you come across like an expert. You still have an opinion but try not to sound like a pro
With this particular thread, I have been advising on a car I owned for a year and a half (the Golf 7R) which ive sold around 4 months ago, and which I honestly thought was a great car. In fact one of the best cars ive owned from the many cars ive owned (Mesugga has alluded to this). I even went on to tell the OP that I currently own an A45 AMG Edition 1 (which is a special version of the A45 an already impressive car) which is seen by many as a more “exclusive” brand; and the Golf in my opinion is a better car. Now I could have made this entire discussion about how great the A45 is, but I didn’t. Its not what the OP wanted. Nothing would be more assuring to a would be buyer with the comment that I think my current “faster”, “more luxurious” car is lacking when compared to the Golf ive had. This is by no means showing people how big my penis is. If I wanted to do that, I could have chatted about other cars ive owned which I thought is irrelevant to the discussion.
So then what about the 1M? epenis showing off surely? When I made the factual comment about the Golf out launching a BMW M235i, Splinter got a little irate and asked me where I got this information from.
Bringing the 1M into the discussion was merely to demonstrate that the Golf R would out launch a BMW 1M which was the closest car to his M235i that ive owned, which is 250kw, faster on a straight line and around a track. Out launching doesn’t mean the faster car overall. The BMW on a longer run is faster. It just that the Golf is able to put its power down much better than the BMW and on the 1/4 mile the Golf will be in front. The whole thread then went ape **** after he made the comment of the 1M being overhyped … and the rest is history (lets not go there).
I do hope the OP has purchased his car and is loving it. Be it the S3 or R. Both great cars. And if myself and Splinter ever met sure we'd laugh about this thread (i hope) ... but wed be good since we both love cars (most of my best friends are a result of us having met through cars)
