PURICOS SIDE EFFECTS

I am not the heaviest of okes, but my doctor started me out with daily 300mg of Puricos a long while back. I took it for 4 days and had EXTREME itchiness and sensitivity. Luke-warm water would feel like fire on my skin and I would scratch everywhere until I bled.

I'm on 300mg (3x 100mg) a week now and the gout has been kept at bay for the past few years.

your weight + the dosage = very important

Clicks 9 Strain Probiotics any good ?

if you want to use decent probiotics, look for the ones kept in the fridge, as they contain live cultures. I can recommend Amipro Daily Flora or MetaGenics Ultra Flora Balance.

Guys, I've taken the max dose of Colchicine today, but no pain relief or diarrhea. What now?

so I did a course of Colchicine until the stomach troubles started. But the pain got worse during the night.

Got some Arcoxia and Cortisone from the doc this morning, already the pain is decreasing.

I really thought the Puricos was going to keep the attacks at bay, but maybe 100mg daily is not enough.

Funny thing is, we don't even eat the bad foods - red meat maybe once every two weeks, etc.

But maybe it is red wine, I haven't been drinking much of it lately until this week and then the attack started yesterday.

Oh well, I'll stick with my whiskey then

Chaps, help me understand this, because I'm at a loss now.

Since my diagnosis in late Nov, I've been on Puricos 100mg daily. My acid level went from 0.49 in November to 0.28 in January. Still not great, but manageable.

Despite this, and not eating much meat or drinking any red wine, I had a severe episode about a month ago. A course of Arcoxia 120mg for a week sorted this out, and we upped my daily Puricos to 300mg.

A blood test showed acid level had stabilised to 0.25, which is odd because I have been on Puricos since December and the doc expected a more significant drop. There were also no other rheumatoid markers in my blood analysis.

But despite being on 300mg daily Puricos for a month now, I woke up this morning with a moderately painful foot, which is a precursor to a full-blown episode. Thankfully I have a stash of Arcoxia, so I can ease the pain.

Is the Puricos just not effective in my case? Anyone else also in the same boat?

Thanks

not the same boat but after my first attack I started the a Vogel alkaline powder and kidney support drops Daily. When I feel a bit tingly in the toes after red meat and Alcohol I also have apple cider vinegar in the AM. This works for me.

Give it time. The crystals form and lodge themselves within your tissues. It doesn't just go away overnight.

This is why taking Puricos (or increasing the dose) can bring on even further attacks.

How does ongoing treatment prevent attacks and long-term damage?

Long-term joint damage and formation of tophi (small white lumps under the skin) can be caused by a continued build-up of uric acid crystals. Crystals can damage the cartilage and bones, leading to long-term arthritis. If people do not take long-term treatment for gout, uric acid can sometimes form kidney stones. The drugs used to relieve symptoms of a gout attack do not get rid of uric acid crystals in the joints or reduce the level of uric acid in the blood, but ongoing treatments, like allopurinol, can do this.

Reducing the levels of uric acid prevents new crystals from forming. It also slowly dissolves the crystals that are already there. It can take up to 2 years of daily medications to completely clear the body of crystals, and then further attacks of gout and joint damage are unlikely. Even when the crystals have been dissolved, long-term treatment is still needed once a day to keep levels of uric acid within the normal range and prevent new crystals from forming.

Thankfully I have a stash of Arcoxia, so I can ease the pain.

Be careful with NSAID's. They're a double edged sword which can really mess your stomach up or increase your risk of heart attacks. As with all things, good to use in moderation, but think twice about it.

Yeah, I know all about NSAIDs - have had stomach ulcers because of them, and have been on Pantocid for about a year now.

When my gout flared up last month, I only took the Arcoxia for a week. But as soon as I stopped, I could feel the tingling in my feet again, and I only started Arcoxia again when the pain really got bad on Thursday/Friday.

Unfortunately apple cider vinegar doesn't seem to work for me...

Unfortunately the remaining crystals will continue to create flare-ups until they've gone.

You'll need to treat accordingly until you reach a stage where they've all dissolved and are no longer causing inflammation.

Very important to keep on the Puricos though, since this will stop new crystals from forming and keep them at bay once all have dissolved.

Good luck!

As a fellow gout sufferer, I ended up going for trails done by an American pharma company here in SA. After months of trials and tests etc. they determined that I am one of the very, very small % worldwide of people that are non-responsive to Puricos.

Fok, so what are you doing to keep it in check?

Prednisone and Arcoxia...if I feel the slightest tinge of an onset, I take a dose and it stops it. Then I of course do not carry on with any further meds.

But I have to do this maybe once every 2 months...

Yesterday I went to see a specialist at the Winelands Rheumatology Centre, and based on her preliminary assessment, the doctor doesn't think that I've got gout.

My symptoms and test results are more indicative of reactive arthritis or some other form of rheumathoid arthritis.

We've done x-rays and more blood tests to narrow down a course of treatment.

I have had the same notion about my condition as well.

PM me her details?

this is a world-class facility, which has a team of specialists, and they also conduct clinical trials.

They don't seem too busy right now due to C19, I phoned on Tuesday and got an appointment yesterday.

Saw this pop up. Thank you for the details. Had 2x “attacks” a year or so ago. Was hell until I actually went to the doc for an injection the first time and got pills. Since Then I consider myself lucky and haven’t had a case. But still very much remember the pain and discomfort. I’m keeping this if it happens again.

This is where I took part in clinical trials many, many moons ago.

I don't know if I have gout I went to the doctor some months ago and my blood test indicator was on the upper end of nominal. X-ray came back clean, they gave me colchicine but it didn't seem to do much just give me diarrhea. Now it's several months later and my leg/ankle is still bruised and painful to the touch. From what I read up I suspect it might be a "bone bruise" which apparently takse months to heal and won't show on an x-ray
