:)

my wife is over in the UK at the moment and needs to get online on her laptop. she has that vodacom huewai modem... (not the e220, the new one like 600 or something)

obviously too expensive to roam so i told her to go buy a vodafone sim and try that. but when she puts it in modem, the vodafone /vodacom dashboard says "please insert correct sim" .

so im thinking she needs to get rid of vodacom dashboard and download mobile partner and flash the firmware on that modem.... what you guys think?

SHe needs to unlock it.
This has been done but Im not sure how.

It'll probably be unlocked, she just needs the new software like you said. Before you do that though try making a new profile with the Vodafone details, might just work.

you need to change the APN , its looking for Vodacom SA

I agree. It makes sense, since the connection profile was set up in RSA. It is similar to the GPRS settings (actually precisely the same...) on your phone that differ between networks VC,MTN etc.

She should get the Vodafone UK settings and change them on the laptop.

I guess that it is a bit of problem trying to work these things out from Kenya ;)

but I am sure that if she went to a voda store there that they would be able to help :D Glad that she and the kids got there safely...

uninstall and re-install, select Vodafone UK when prompted. (with the vodafone UK sim in)

Hi
Its not a setup issue, the device is not detecting the SIM at all. Irrespective of where the connection setup was done, it wont interfere with anything. Besides most of the networks in the world use the APN internet for public use. It def seems like the card is locked to VC SA.
Vodacom 3G any ideas?
Regards

Flash the firmware :) but the default huawei firmware onto it? No VC cards should be sim locked.

Vodacom supplied Devices are NOT Network Locked.

When I was over there last year, I used a Vodafone sim card and it worked. I changed the provider from Vodacom SA to Vodafone UK

This is not a modem problem, i.e. the modem is not locked.

Rather it's the Vodafone dashboard not detecting the foreign SIM, just like the MTN dashboard won't work with Vodacom or other non-MTN sim (as an example).

Best is to get the software the foreign network uses and install that. Should sort it.

thanks guys.... this is a work in progress...

quite a thing to sort this over long distance and to explain what to do to someone who does not even know the difference between a USB and firewire port :)

wish me luck

Yep - exactly what I said - just uninstall and re-install > select Vodafone UK.

It isn't a Vodacom Device, it IS actually a Vodafone Device - It's not Locked

(It's just looking for a Vodacom SIM cause you chose that when installing)
