I recently received a nasty sms from an 071 number. A day later I received an apology ... maybe cos the perpetrator realised I have his/her number. I tried calling it back many times but it’s continuously off. I assume it’s a 3G sim card. Anyone out there knows how I can go about just finding out where this sms originated from? I’m sure it was a case of mistaken identity but for peace of mind and my families sake I need to know … Really appreciate any assistance

You can't. At least not without a court order or breaking the law.

Yeah ... seems like its alot of work for Vodacom as well ... but working in an operations environment i am sure soem agent could look up the number atleast.

Absolutely nothing to hide ... but if that message was meant for someone else … they could be in potential danger ... PLUS the inquisitive streak in me is getting the better off me ...

You can only really google the number, maybe there is some reference to it?

Aint no agents on here. Anyway, Vodacom can see who accessed the number on their system, so as nice as it is to spy, the papertrail will bite you in the butt.

With number porting you can't even be sure its a Voda number.

So the Mafia prefers Voda over MTN then.

I guess you right ... but I did a query with MTN using that number and they cam back saying number not on system ... where as with vodacom they came back saying OTP sent to my phone ... that’s why i assume its most likely a vodacom no.

Try Crimeline if you're really concerned. (Not to tell you who the number belongs too, but to handle the situation)

That’s what I also really think and hopefully that is the case ... but it would be nice to know that, that is indeed the case ...

Can't you go to the police station and see what they say? They might want to investigate it.

I did do that ... but the station i went to told me they have had no success with past cases ... so no use. Unless it was a top priority case the police themslves will look into it ....
