Hermanus riots

Does it even matter where they came from. The point is they're there and invasions of idle land has been happening for decades with shanty towns popping up on them.

no, no that is not the point.

No, the land is allocated to be purposed for settlement expansion. Why do you think they send the Red Ants in when someone decides to put up shack outside of the settlement boundary?

Just for notice, it does matter where these people came from, many incidents of this riot have involved xenophobia. It is more than mere land grabs…

Yes, if they get it, then by Friday we will all be in utter fkn chaos, wew here we go.

It will be a circus, the worst practice by politicians to try and keep people calm. It is the politicians, themselves, then who will create the opportunity to spur on land grabs. Say this happens, the ANC will be placed in a position to really accelerate the process than to turn heel come their winning vote at the elections…

Next up is your garden

I don't follow twitter, but has anyone noticed any comments from EFF and Malema on this situation?

He's not lying though is he. Don't know if this has anything to do with the Hermanus invasions or if its an official statement or Gardee is just giving his two cents.

I'm not condoning land invasions in the least bit, don't get me wrong. I'm just calling bull**** on the idea that this is a result of the expropriation policy.

Many black residential areas are today formalized & zoned residential after forceful repossession.

Foreful repossession, which areas? Is he talking of informal settlements?

I agree . Land issue is a time bomb . Needs to be managed swiftly and it will cause friction , but we need to make big strides here and get a move on

The community did earlier state that they are doing it by EFF demand. 4 Busses also came in the morning packed with people to support the cause. The idea that an expropriation without compensation policy may be realised has enticed land grabs. Like I said, many xenophobia attacks have taken place since the riot started, it has become more than a mere land grab. The people are also evicting the aliens…

However, all this seems to destabilise the Western Cape, politically motivated.

And yet we have a certain group on this forum that will have us believe it is business as usual, that these are no different to land seizures in the past. This is an entirely new level of escalation precipitated by the ANC/EFF.

If you can show me a statement from the community stating that they're doing it because the EFF said so and proof of bussing by a particular party then I'll concede but remeber Malema still has an on going court case for calling for land invasions. If they're mandated by the EFF, officially or otherwise, why now? The EFF doesn't care about destabiising the WC though because they know they don't really have a chance there. The only party that would stand to benefit would be the ANC; so which is it.

Yes, conveniently when the ANC decided to say something about it. If the ANC did not say a word then News24 would still not have reported on it. They basically waited for the green light before reporting on it.

Yes, he's talking about informal settlements which is why he says they've been formalized.

That is where he has one important fact wrong, read this on Khayelitsha for example, read everything.

Forceful repossession, no. Every informal (or temporary) settlement has a story prior becoming a 'township'. Many facts which are related to rapid growth.

Land grabs are ‘new’ opportunities.

A group of stunned Somalians say they lost over 100 small shops in overnight looting in #Zwelihle, #Hermanus. "I had to run with my wife and children while they burnt my shop, my house and turned my car over," said one man (@itchybyte)

We're told that Somalian shop owners have moved out of Zwelihle, #Hermanus due to overnight looting. One man said a gang raided his plumbing supplies shop at 3am. They went for his spaza too but he asked them to take what they wanted, "just don't burn". He lost R30k (@itchybyte)

If they give these guys any kind of positive result there will be a flood of similar protests. The government has to step down hard on this, but I wonder if they can afford the votes. They have steadily for years taught the poor that the only way to get the attention of anyone is to get media camera's there via destruction and law breaking. That is when the politicians will rock up and start listening. More and more people are burning down schools, police stations, and libraries to get the attention of government on their issues. Each time government rewards this type of behaviour but giving them the attention they deserve. What they don't seem to realize is where this will lead to long term. We are getting close to the edge here, and the land issue could trigger it. If the residents of Hermanus get given land, this country will light on fire as the millions like them follow suit.

As hard as it sounds the only solution at this point is to punish them harshly for the vandalism. Say instead of building houses we will use the RDP budget for this area to rebuild what you burnt. So you all just added a few years to the odds of you getting a home. Perhaps that will turn it around.

So CR said the land issue wouldn't cause trouble and he wants to open our borders? Meanwhile, land invasions and xenophobia in progress. Talk about a politician being out of touch with the reality of his country.
