High interconnect rates: A charge too far

Well done to John and ECN Telecoms for pushing hard to reduce interconnect rates: Lets hope parliament, ICASA and the operators play ball!

Um Rpm, how many more of these articles are ya gonna publish, no criticism intended but this seems to be more like a daily blog than a once off affair...
Saw you on Carte Blanche on Sunday, you have a great camera prescence, nice one:)

Just because you are forced to drop your interconnect fee is not an argument that you won't make enough money. Your retail prices can still be well above the interconnect rate. So what is the problem? The market will set the fair price. At the moment, the interconnect rate is way way above the fair price for a call.

give use the same as the rest of the world, if its 15c, then make it that, MTN and Vodacom are making to much money any way, last year 8 Billion profit.

They may not subscribe but they definitely have trolls here!!!

If you look at the top of the article, you will see that the author is John Holdsworth, CEO of ECN Telecoms.

It's nice to get some opinion/articles from the industry. Gives a different viewpoint that we as consumers have, and sometimes it re-inforces our own viewpoints, when they tend to be the same, as in this case.

Yes, RPM, stop forcing people to read stuff on here. They've all got better things to do with their time than come in here and read every single article, even those that don't interest them. You are robbing them of their free will, damn it. Stop it, this instant!

Better than the daily SEACOM is coming thread.

We've all given up on that one already.

"This week Parliament’s communication committee did two laudable things. First....[...]. Second, it tore into Icasa, branded it as inept, and called for performance assessments for its councillors. About time."

now we're talking! Performance assessments for its councillors!! hold them accountable for allowing these telecom crimes against SA..

"As for performance measurements for Icasa, it must leave them in place forever." - Leave what in place? the performance assessments or the councillors?

There should be looked at the poor people who use pay as you go,they pay upfront in advance prepaid airtime and are charged more than a person who has an account over and above the interconnection charges
