I know this is probably not the place to post this, but all the foodies are in here so you should know fridges :o

Anyway, I see some great specials at Makro/Game/Dion with regards to these Hisense Fridges. Very good prices. I then see they came with a 4 year warrantee. Any of you have such a fridge? Your thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated. I can get way more if I buy a Hisense fridge wise (size and features) opposed to other brands in the same price range.

I'll be following the replies here ... my excellent Bosch Fridge/Freezer combo has lasted me many years now, but has started making strange noises .. perhaps it's time to look at a new fridge/freezer

Now is a great time. I'm not really in the market but when I saw the prices I thought to myself. Now is probably as good a time as any for an upgrade. Prices are really good. I just hope it's good fridges. Else I'll put it off a bit and save a little more for another brand.

I moved from a samsung fridge to hisense fridge, don't notice too much different tbh. It was pretty pricey for a hisense but it's already lasted longer than our samsung. If I'd had the hisense warranty on the samsung then I wouldn't have had to fork out for a new one.

I have a Hisense fridge, have it just over 3 years now and not had a single issue thus far...

Don't have one.... but I honestly don't see why they would have any issues.

That 4 year gaurantee would be the clincher for me tbh...

Yea I think you're right. They should have some decent support also for these fridges if they offer 4 years.

Not to hijack OP thread but does anyone consider the energy consumption when buying a fridge? Given its plugged in year round I do consider the consumption cost relative to initial outlay. Not sure how hisense compares.

Not bad at all, BUT when they break you are in for plenty of drama. Seem to last about 5 years.
Sealed fridges impossible to work on. The freezer part will carry on working but the fridge unit will not be repairable, as most repair places will claim it cannot be opened to fault find.

Anyone want one? Standing in my Garage, belonged to a pensioner who had to replace the fridge, fridge part broken, freezer part works.
Lynwood Domestic Services had a go at fixing it, ended up over pressurizing the system and damaging some or other hidden control valve ---

NB DO NOT transport the fridge lying down. Apparently that is fatal, even new ones will not work after being transported flat, must be upright.

Yes it is an important consideration these days.

However, after getting involved in this particular fridge, I did some investigations, including speaking to repair guys and ended up deciding that a commercial upright freezer and fridge are a far better buy than the flashy residential stuff available. Even a second hand commercial fridge and freezer is a better buy on all fronts than the domestic stuff.

Ok, and how much do those commercial units actually cost then?

I have a HiSense. I think I bought it 3 years ago.

Considering that it's the only fridge I've ever owned, I don't really have anything else to compare it to, other than my parents Whirlpool. It's a great fridge, lots of space, and I suppose a touch over board for one person (the one I have anyway).

It's large, metallic, has boat loads of space, uses LED's instead of bulbs, has - or has a good warranty, and it's quiet.

My only gripe was that the day after I paid for it, it dropped by R500. It upset me. But such is life. I am happy with the fridge, and even before the discount, I got it at what I thought was a good price. No regrets.

The Bosch I have was similarly priced against the Hisense so I got the Bosch rather.

I love Bosch. They have a massive aftersales support base globally. But have you seen the price differences as of late? I can get a Hisense with similar size and features for about R 6k and the Bosh for R 10k. Might just be the specials or promotions they have on Hisense now though.

As an example: This is the one I'm looking at:

In the market for something bigger. Small KIC Supercool Combo Fridge/Freezer was fine for just me and the wife 10 years ago. Since then two more members joined the family and I started enjoying cooking a lot. So the small little fridge just not cutting it anymore for all the goodies.

Hisense prices certainly look good. I'm yet to go and physically look at the options available. Not even sure what size we have now. Think 200lt or something.

For the people with fridges with water dispensers. Do you actually use it? Or is it just a novelty?

Wife is adamant our new fridge must have one. She drinks nothing but water, I'm sure she'll use it. But for the rest of my family, highly doubt it. I could do with the one dispensing Ice though :o

We also drink copious amounts of water.

Currently filling up 7 to 8 of those Bonaqua 750ml Pump bottles and grabbing one as the need arises. Refilling done every night when cleaning up the kitchen.

So although I think the dispenser will be a nice to have in the beginning, I'm just wondering if I'll have the patience to wait for a glass or pump bottle to fill up every time I'm going to want water.

Can't say the dispenser will be wasted space because either way we are going to have a fridge stocked with ice cold water.

Mine has one of those manually filled water dispensers, and it gets used quite a bit. Not by me personally but the girlfriend and all my mates use it extensively.
