HIV NEGATIVE !!!!!

Glad to hear that you are well and it all came out great, and happy that you went that not knowing is a killer in its self!!! Hope your brother is feeling better too.

Grats!

I pay regular visits to the clinic... only after sleeping with somebody new or just being promiscuous - was scary at first, even though i was sure i was safe. After that going again is a breeze.. just dont sleep with sleeze..

That epitomises the problem in SA and it may also be one of the reasons our infection rate is so high. People think 'decent folk' as opposed to the 'sleaze' you mentioned, are not infected or will not get infected. By the way, is safe sex not better than merely going to the clinic after having slept with someone new? Then it could be too late.

AIDS is the great equalizer. NEVER FORGET THAT.

Does your blood get tested when you donate blood?
And if they find you are infected, do they tell you?

Because i've been for a blood test before and I passed..
and since then donated blood, and they even sms me every year on my birthday thanking me

I think they'd let you know if you tested positive.

If you test positive they wouldn't want you coming back now would they.

I'm not allowed to give blood. Hepatitus one thing or another aka Geelsig.

I think Geelsig is Hepatitis A. I had it once - I thought it was curable? I'm considering giving blood when the opportunity arises next.

well thats a relief..
I really don't want aids, i'd go crazy

I never know if it's A or B, and apparently the other one which is not Geelsug is an STD :D that has me in some wierd conversations when going to hospital :D

Anyway, yes I think you are allowed to give blood after 10 years from when you had it. But Most of the time if they hear that you had it, they tell you that they will use the Plasma or Pallets instead and not the blood as such.

Might have changed I stand to be corrected.

Kudos to the otherwise hated hordie !

Glad you're all right mate! Mine turned negative after my life insurance tests as well. I'm _REALLY_ careful with it since I suffer from uber-sensitive nosebleeds. Not too keen to get the family infected when I spring a leak.

Dude, its not your fault you get the nosebleeds, it just seems that everytime there is something in the area thats moving fast (waterpolo balls, rugby balls, pool cues) that it ends up whacking you on the nose!

Back on topic though I was tested a few weeks ago for life insurance too and its negative, not that I expected it to be any different though.

I would be curious as to the *general* response, should one of the posters admit that he tested positive.

You would be amazed at the warm heartedness of fellow forumites. I have had my PM box flooded since I posted the first thread about my brother. I don't think anyone would make it out to be that you deserve it.

You need to have seen the support I got, like I mentioned before. I would not have made it thru these 2 weeks if it wasn't for their support ;)

That is nice to know. I have seen some of them being very nice and others kick you when you're down, so never know for sure.

Glad to hear it Pitbull its all good....better to make sure than to second guess yourself.

afaik SA is pretty much the leading country in that regard. Blood here gets tested on a scale thats not done elsewhere.

The B one is the scary one. I think many people have A in a dormant form...but not sure on that one.

I'd guess pretty encouraging, esp if its not a 1 post wonder. Might take a page or 2 till everyone realizes its serious though (like with suicide threads).

I hope everyone here knows their blood type too in addition to your HIV status...could save your life. Bloodtype O- and to a lesser degree O+ is most disparately needed btw. If you're O- then you could save some serious lifes by donating...

Don't we also have one of the highest infection rates per capita?
