HIV NEGATIVE !!!!!

Good thing we do a few tests now and then I reckon.

*The* highest afaik.

And Africa knows it. I was in a bar in Cameroon about 2 years ago. Almost every local girl that came over to chat us up (that's how it works there) commented that we must have HIV the moment they heard we where from SA. This immediately caused them to double their going rate. Africa is certainly interesting!

True, but I think people would rather life with the fact not knowing than actually going and know for sure. I know I've been thru that

For sexually active people it's highly advisable to know ASAP - know and protect those you love and also start treating it at an early stage.

I agree 100%

If only they could get a reliable instant test.... The wait is a mental killer :(

Firstly, Grats Pitbull. I know the feeling of waiting for a HIV test result (Due to the industry I work in).

To those who still live with the attitude 'It only happens to others', I treated a guy up in Uganda a good few years ago who was HIV +. Over a 8 month period I watched him waste away until we just sent him home to die. He was 23, had a wife and 2 kids.

A little rhyme: Don't be silly, don't be dilly ... put a condom on your willy!

Get yourself tested, medication can prolong not only your life but the quality of it as well.

have a look at pookystuff.co.za - It will explain a lot.

So .... they are willing to have sex, knowing they may die, but they will only do that at double the rate? Talk about idiotic.

There are a few things that occured to me when reading this thread and by the time I got to the end I have forgotten a few but:

1. Would the OP have been as forthcoming with his announcement if he had been positive? I fear not and this to me just further alienates people who are positive. The exuberance of his announcement would only lead to others who are positive to be less likely to announce their status. They are still human...

2. There seem to be a lot of assumptions that "my significant other would never stray". Ask anyone who has been on the other side of a spouse cheating and they may say they had an inkling but no one ever knows for sure. Don't make assumptions.

3. Giving blood as a means of getting a free HIV test is not very sensible considering the SANBS do not tell the donor the results of any tests done but merely destroy the blood...

In order to protect the patient, blood is tested for various diseases that may be transmitted through blood transfusion. Each unit of donated blood is subjected to strict and rigorous testing and processing procedures. Once blood groups are verified, tests for various infectious diseases are conducted (such as HIV/Aids, hepatitis B and hepatitis C). The result of the HIV test is not disclosed to the donor. Also, due to the sensitive testing techniques, false positive results may occur.

4. A lot of talk centres around wearing a condom when having sex and all will be well.... yes, penetrative sex is one of the riskier acts but many of the acts preceding penetrative sex are also risky and usually done condom less.... a bit of a false sense of safety I fear...
