Home Connecta Flexi

It appears that they have just increased the price by 15% to R229! There is now an 80GB bundle for R199 as well as the 100GB option for R229. The New Year has just started and they are already raising prices! Not a good sign for those of us still using this product.

@Swa
I bought this 2 weeks ago using *147*583# from my phone
Yeah I see it's still on USSD. The Cell C website is a mess with different products available in different places at different prices. I assume the USSD menu is the most current one.

That is for the 50GB and 80GB which is the old 25GB+25GB and 40GB+40GB and not 50GB+50GB and 80GB+80GB. That is old and the 50GB+50GB is now R259 which is not too bad if it's permanent and not raised in the future after their last change to the lineup.

I am, for the next three or so months, still stuck in what must be the only hospital in South Africa without Wi-Fi (free or otherwise) . Thereafter I move to Cape Town to be close to my son in Hout Bay.

My son uses Cell C extensively and is very happy with their signal Plus it costs the least.

I am currently in Monument Park (Pretoria) where it appears that there are no good service providers - only least worst ... And, as I have to use my cellular data to connect to the outside world, I am thinking of moving to Home Connecta.

Any suggestions welcome, especially when it comes to purchasing a modem.

I think that Ackermans sells the Hisense H221M for R399 but it is probably network locked to MTN.

You could try to unlock the H221M if you want to use it on Cell C.

I think that MTN offers a 100GB monthly prepaid bundle for R229 but it might not be available to all customers. The 50+50GB Home Connecta Flexi data can be rolled over indefinitely but you only get 50GB of anytime data for the same price as the 100GB anytime 30 day MTN bundle.

Otherwise I would look for a Huawei E5576 from Telkom. The model that GeeWiz is selling is not original. It appears to be cheapest from Pep (Cell C) at the moment. I'm not sure whether that model is network locked. The Bash one is from Telkom which is usually not locked.

If you send me a PM I might be able to suggest some other options.

Many thanks for the detailed reply, along with my apologies for the delay in responding.

Will P/M you tomorrow.

Hi,
I am on Cell C Connecta Flexi Data plan
Since a bit of a thunder storm over Century City C.T. about 1-2 hrs ago, my connection is OFF
Only red light on my Huawei LTE router
Can anyone confirm if there is an issue in the area ?
Thanx

Has anybody noticed something? Since the website redesign it's only been showing one field each for normal and night data with the latest expiry if you bought more than one bundle. I thought they automatically added them together but that doesn't seem to be the case. I extended my bundle and only got the option for some of my night data. When I checked my balances all of the night data showed the new expiry so I thought hey it must have been misreporting but that doesn't seem to be the case. Now when I checked about a whole bundles worth of night data was just gone.

I can't check on the app as obviously the bundle has now expired so I don't know if it's the same.

The only change appears to be that the app no longer shows the individual bundles but shows the combined totals for the LTE Power Plan and Connecta Nite Data bundles with the dates of the bundles closest to expiry.

When you access the Bundle Rollover menu it still gives you a list of the bundles that need to be rolled over. You can also roll over the data from the USSD menu of your router but this can become tedious if you have a lot of unused bundles. I have so many nighttime bundles at this point that I try to check every day if anything needs to be rolled over.

If you want to save money you can buy 14-day bundles and then roll them over within 14 days. I think that the new bundles can then be rolled over every 30 days. I usually purchase the 50+50GB 14-day bundle for R209 instead of the pricier 50+50GB 30-day bundle for R269. These days the LTE Power Plan rarely lasts me 30 days if I watch many YouTube videos.

Same on the website except it shows the bundle with the latest expiry. This causes you to lose data and it's not the first time but I thought I was imagining it before. Now I have to keep going to the rollover menu every few days or use the app to see.

I didn't know there was a cheaper bundle and that it can be rolled over. Last I checked the 14 day bundles were all smaller bundles.

You can get the expiry dates for each bundle from the router's USSD menu (*147# Balance, Detailed Balance - Option 4 etc.) but it is rather tedious. That 50+50GB 14-day bundle may also only be available from the USSD menu (*147# Buy Option 1 Data Option 2 etc.).

Some features are much easier to access via the app such as airtime transfer - you can transfer up to R50 each time. You can only transfer up to R30 via the USSD menu etc. I usually load my airtime onto a SIM which is provisioned for the All-In-One plan and then transfer the airtime to my Home Connecta Flexi SIM. If you load 4XR50 airtime vouchers you get 4X1GB free data to use on the AIO SIM for 7 days as well as some free airtime to make calls - 4GB of Free Data is always welcome !

I was hoping that the cost of data would drop over time, particularly after the launch of 5G but this does not appear to be the case. In China 5G phones now cost the same as 4G ones so cheap 5G routers should be available very soon.

Only 2+2GB available on the web and app. Since I'm using mifi I have to take the sim out of the router to do any USSD and the device is a bit flaky. Yes was also hoping for better data deals but it's been a few years and Cell C has only gone backwards with this even killing the 60+60GB recently and it's only 40+40GB now. Sadly it's still the best available. Wish someone would launch something like the Telkom 1TB bundle again. I'd even pay R1000 for it in the form of a flexi bundle I can extend indefinitely.

These are the offers that I get via USSD. I usually buy the 100GB (50+50GB) Option 3. Yes it is unfortunate that Cell C discontinued most of their large bundles. The previous 1TB Cell C bundle would have been ideal. The only more affordable option appears to be the Telkom 80+80GB month-to-month contract for R199. Telkom's prepaid bundles are unfortunately much more expensive.

I don't get these. There's a special offers menu but it only gives me the 4GB 14d and sometimes 80GB 30d for R259 (same as on the web) and a bunch of smaller bundles. I don't have any of the larger bundles. I used to buy the 120GB bundle until I thought they stopped it but it seems the offers are customised per person.

I don't seem to getting any of the offers that I posted previously any more either although I bought the 50+50GB 14-day bundle for R209 a few days ago ! There might be some type of system problem at the moment as I have noticed that the best offers can sometimes disappear for a few hours. I will check again later. I hope that they will reappear shortly as otherwise I might have to look elsewhere !

What Axxess account number? This is a Cell C product and thread.

I don't remember ever seeing that. I used to buy the 120GB (30d) but it's been gone for me for ages so I assumed they discontinued it. I don't think I ever had the 100GB (30d). I'm pretty sure this is a customised offer and maybe they even remove offers that are often used. Perhaps I should just get a new sim to reset it.

I tried again a bit later and I am getting the same offers as before - 50+50GB 14 days for R209 etc. These offers are from *147# --> 1. Buy --> 2. Data Only etc.

I set up a new HCF SIM for one of the security staff at my complex in March and he was receiving the same offers that I do on his new HCF SIM card. He installed his SIM in an android phone and I have mine in a B315 router. Let us know if you get the same offers on your new SIM card. At one stage many customers were having problems with faulty HCF SIMs so your SIM card might be giving problems.

I have been looking at several cheaper data offers recently as the 50+50GB does not last as long as it used to ! I will probably wait until Black Friday if I decide to move to a cheaper alternative. Supersonic has an Anytime 100GB MTN bundle for R249 p/m which would be tempting if the company offered better service. It appears that you need to purchase a R499 router from them to qualify for this deal but I might be mistaken.

There is also this R199/pm Telkom 80+80GB Offer from SimDeals but I can't find any positive feedback.

This R230/pm Telkom 80+80GB bundle appears to be very similar to those from Axxess, Afrihost etc. and does not appear to involve a contract.

Let us know if you have any better recommendations.
