I have a neotel modem and data sim.

the data finished and so I loaded about R150 onto it by dialing 241. that worked fine and have a R150 loaded.
but there is no option to convert the airtime into the 7Gig data bundles that Neotel offers.

There website is crap- no info on how to convert to a data bundle, I checked under FAQs but found nothing. There were two numbers, which go to a call centre- but there is no answer or I get a message saying it is outside their operating hours.

Can someone out there please advise on how to go about converting my airtime into a data bundle on Neotel.

thanks

Noor,

No need to convert. I assume you bought a prepaid voucher. It has a lot of numbers on it, much like a credit card number. This prepaid voucher can be loaded as airtime or "datatime" (is that even a word?!). If you load it onto a phone, doing the 241 thing, you will be able to talk. If you use your modem to access the internet, it will use the balance.

I activate it differently, because i have a modem only (can't be used for voice calls). Just go onto Neotel's homepage, click on "Home/Small Office" - third button from left on top, then select "Prepaid" - fourth option from top, then insert your service no. something like 080XXXXXXX, in the marked field, and lastly the voucher long PIN number.

Hope this helps!

Hi SideWinder

Thanks but sadly it didnt work for me.

I tried to do it via their website, but it did not convert the R50 voucher into 2 gigs of data.
Basically got like maybe 50 MB i think...:((

Neotel should make it possible to convert the value into data as most stores i went to do not have prepaid data.

The WIC @ Neotel HQ sells them. Weird that is't not available at all others. Maybe it's got to do with getting the SIM the first time. Thereafter reload prepaid data "airtime" anywhere? Anybody out there that had done/tried this? I bought both SIM and topup @ HQ WIC.

I think you bought the wrong voucher. You get an AIRTIME VOUCHER and a DATA VOUCHER No converting

You have to specify to the cashier that you want a DATA VOUCHER, otherwise he/she will sell to you a VOICE VOUCHER which will be rather useless for the data modem (except maybe using it at per MB rates...).

The Neotel Website is rather fickle when it comes to loading the data voucher; works sometimes, but mostly doesn't work. Your best bet is to use a NEOTEL voice line and dial 241, enter the voucher pin when prompted and choose the option of loading another line. Enter your DATA modem's number, 08********#. And that's it. There's no converting.

Please note that when you fire up the Neotel Data application you will receive an incoming SMS declaring that "your account has been recharged with an astronomical amount of Rands..." Don't be alarmed. My take is that the Neotel system still uses per MB billing and for them to give you, say the 7G at R149, they have to actually load R1433,60 onto your account. And that's why you'll receive an SMS confirmation of an overinflated recharge value from the one you purchased.
